Dog Days of Summer Are Well Upon Us
Before air-conditioning, we used to find all kinds of ways to beat the heat
There’s no getting around it, the post-Fourth of July portion of the calendar marks the unofficial “dog days of summer.” There are more than 60 days before we get to the next holiday, Labor Day, marking the end of summer. Though we officially transitioned from spring to summer a scant few days before Independence Day, I’d say the Fourth of July marks the midpoint of the summer. Baby, its hot out there. I remember vividly, when I was a kid, my friends would disappear most of the summer for camps or vacations in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Maine or out on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
