Eight Missouri teams will be in the day-long event at Scottrade Center Thursday.
The Coaches vs Cancer Shootout, a benefit for the St. Louis chapter of the American Cancer Association is a lot more than just a hoop fest. This is basketball for a real cause. While the players get to battle in front of large crowds in a major league arena (Scottrade Center), precious dollars are being raised for the effort to wipe out Cancer in our lifetime. Nothing could be better than that. Matt Hixenbaugh, MICDS’ coach of a team invited back for the third consecutive year puts it this way. “To be involved in this Shootout is a great honor. It is a wonderful opportunity to use basketball to make a positive impact on the outside world. In doing this, it is a great opportunity for our guys to be involved in a wonderful endeavor and …

Rams get 20 points from Andrew Maddock, and 16 points from Cornell Johnston in 60-58 victory over Cadets in championship game of DC Wilcutt Tournament.
TOWN AND COUNTRY -- From the moment he realized his team would be facing the No. 2 ranked team in all of St. Louis area basketball, in the championship game of the DC Wilcutt Tournament, Ladue High head coach Chad Anderson preached the same mantra over and over again. "I told our kids (Thursday) at practice, and (Friday) before the game," said Anderson, "in order for us to win the big games, you've got to believe in yourself, number one. You've got to compete. And you've got to trust your teammates. And I think that is the difference in this team and the past teams we've had. These kids believe." Well, that belief became reality late Friday night, as Ladue earned its biggest win -- possibly ever -- in a stunning 60-58 nail-biter over the …

Rams seek redemption in district semifinals against Cadets of CBC.
By virtue of Ladue’s 45-38 win over Roosevelt in the quarterfinals of the Class 5 District 2 game at St. Louis U. High, the Rams earn a rematch with a talented CBC team. The Cadets are coached by Bob McCormack who began his coaching/teaching career at Ladue. The game is tonight at 7 p.m. at the Danis Field House at SLUH. The winner will advance to the championship of the SLUH/Webster Groves semifinal game. On January 11, CBC powdered Ladue 78-57. Coach Chad Anderson of Ladue vows this will be different. We are looking forward to the challenge of playing CBC a second time. Our kids are looking forward to the opportunity. We have a lot of respect for what CBC has done this year, but we are going to have a good game plan. If our kids execute…

National Honor Society played a key role in the success of this important annual campaign.
This year, the St. Joseph’s Academy annual blood drive was all about the competition. The recipient, the blood bank at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur matched the Angels with the Cadets of CBC-winner take all. For real, there is an actual Golden Vampire award, going to the school with the highest donor base, per capita. St. Joe girls did not have to worry that CBC has a bigger enrollment and a potentially bigger donor base. A total of 159 donors gave 116 pints of blood, a school record. Valerie Siemer, incoming president of the St. Joe Mother’s Club was proud to announce that all of the 140 scheduled slots were filled prior to opening the doors. It will all come down to how many of the donors will actually qualify for the event. Some of the…

Rams get off to early lead, then fall to CBC in D.C. Wilcutt Tournament, 78-57.
The Ladue Rams really wanted to beat the CBC Cadets on their own floor in their own tournament. “I really think we can do it,” said assistant coach Todd Basler, prior to tipoff in the semifinals of the D.C. Wilcutt Invitational last night. For a while, Basler’s prediction was looking pretty good. The Cadets raced out to a 7-2 lead, allowing Ladue back into the game and confident visiting squad regained the lead and led at the end of the first quarter 16-9. In the second quarter, the Cadets steadily took control of the game, opening up a 26-18 lead and at halftime it was CBC 34, Ladue 24. By the time veteran coach Bob McCormack had cleared his bench, his Cadets won convincingly, 78-57. CBC plays the winner of Whitfield-Lutheran North in …
