Makeup game from the May 5th rain out.
Game on for the Rams of MICDS and the Bombers of Burroughs. The two teams were rained out on Sunday, May 5, but will play after the Cardinals game with the New York Mets Thursday, first pitch is 4:30 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m. This game is free and open to the public. Free parking is available across the street from Gate 3 on the Southwest corner of Busch Stadium. Win or lose, the players from both sides will get to experience the club house and all the trappings of a big league player. For those making it a day at Busch, the Cardinals face the Mets with that game starting at 12:15 p.m.

Villa's distance freshman Hannah Deinas is a star for the future.
“A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins” So true, so true. Ezekiel Elliott, the most prominent athlete to emerge from John Burroughs since the school’s inception in the 1920s was a winner on the MICDS district track Saturday. Consider the fact, between 11 am and 5 p.m., he ran 7 races, counting the preliminaries of the sprints and hurdles. He won six of those races--one got slightly away. Golfer, soccer player; two lacrosse standouts make up the ballot.
District tournaments are just about to get underway. This week, we have a talented field for MVP "Athlete of the Week." You can vote now, and until 6 p.m.on Wednesday. Vote for your favorite, and pass it on... These are the candidates this week: Seth Smith, Ladue golfer. Top golfer in the area. Won the district tournament and did well in last year's tournament as a junior. Has won a golf scholarship to play for Kansas State next year. Katie Karl, St. Joseph's Academy lacrosse. Gubicya sisters combined for the only goal of the game contested in the light rain.
Burroughs and Trinity Catholic were locked in a soccer game in a light rain Saturday that could have gone either way. At the 70:50 mark of the game on the artificial turf at Burroughs, the Gubicya sisters of Trinity made the win happen. Older sister Julia took a perfectly centered corner kick from Sam Coleman, headed it to her younger sister Melanie, a freshman who flicked it in past a startled Evie Ogelsby, freshman keeper for Burroughs for the initial goal and the game-winner. Guess who blanked the Bombers in a drizzle Saturday?
It took 70 minutes to break a scoreless tie, but the Trinity Titans got a goal on a flicked shot by Melanie Gubicya to shutout the Burroughs Bombers 1-nil in the Saturday round-robin game of the annual Ray Beckman tournament at Burroughs. The winning goal was picture perfect. Julia Gubicya, Melanie's older sister got the inbounds ball and headed it to Melanie. The play got started with a perfect corner kick form Sam Coleman. "That was a good shot and a good win," said Vince Drake, Titans coach who has been involved coaching boys and girls soccer, now for 45 years. This is a game that could have gone either way. Bombers trample visiting Webster Groves 13-0 with an 11-goal first half performance.
The John Burroughs girls lacrosse team has all the components of a fine symphony orchestra in perfect sync. And that doesn’t go unnoticed, because right over their shoulders is the construction of a brand new, multi million dollar fine arts center rising on their campus. The impresarios have all the elements in place. Defense knows its role; the Bombers have solid goal keeping and they have several attackers who can score with ease. Wednesday, all the pieces fell into place with the Bombers pitching a rare shutout, 13-0 over visiting Webster Groves. Bombers pile up 11-0 halftime lead and win 13-0.
Webster Groves coach Andrew Hittler knows building a lacrosse program is no overnight matter. It takes nurturing at the lower levels to compete at the varsity. The Lady Statesmen got their mouth guards handed to them, absorbing a 13-0 clock-shortened game at John Burroughs Wednesday. By halftime, most of the Burroughs starters were on the bench. Leanne Hurster had four-first half goals, Barrett Carlson three and Abby Frerotte, senior goal tender recorded a rare shutout for this sport. Burroughs is 10-3, Webster tumbled to 7-11. Ladue clashes with Parkway North in baseball; all the local girls lacrosse teams take to the fields.
The rains need to clear out of the area and the fields need to dry up. We are heading into the month of May and the last month of high school competition. Teams still need tune ups for the playoffs, just around the corner. Here's what the locals are doing Monday: Baseball Ladue (15-2) at Parkway North (15-3) This 4:15 game on the Vikings campus takes on significant meaning. Both teams are playing exceedingly well this season. While Lex Kaplan has been ripping the cover off the ball, Rob Ewald has been limiting opposing batters. Daniel Brodksy is hitting .475 for North.
