In Des Peres last week, a handful of cars and homes were burglarized in a residential neighborhood—a serious enough "spree" that the city blasted an email and text alert to the neighborhoods. As it happens, the burglar got into some unlocked cars, used the garage door opener and walked into a pair of houses in which the inside door was not locked. The report brought on this comment from a reader: "A person would not lock their car outside overnight (or anytime) because? And with a home garage door opener and valuables inside? Is this laziness or stupidity?" Another reader who said she was was one of the victims took offense: "I hope you are never a victim. You are acting like it was our fault." What do you think? Police are searching for a suspect in the March 22 burglary of a home on Clayton Road.
A burglar used a rear window to gain access to a Ladue home and grab $5,000 worth of goods last Friday. Ladue police said an unknown individual entered a house in the 10000 block of Clayton Road March 22 by breaking a window in the rear of the residence. Once inside he took multiple items valued together at $5,000. The theft occurred sometime in the evening and was discovered by the residents when they returned home for the night. Police said there are no further developments at this time and the case remains under investigation.

This is an alert from Ladue Police Chief Rich Wooten Last night (March 13) the Ladue Police Department received a call of suspicious noises in the Willow Hill subdivision at about 1:00 a.m. Officers responded and observed three males walking in the neighborhood. The individuals ran from the officers and were not identified. During the chase one of the individuals dropped a laptop computer. No crimes were immediately reported from residents of the Willow Hill subdivision or surrounding area. Willow Hill Road is located just north of Ladue Road at McKnight Road. The subdivision backs up to I-170. At 6:00 p.m. on March 13 a relative of a resident on Willow Hill was checking the house while the resident was out of town and discovered a …

Ladue police report finding evidence of an attempted burglary after an alarm sounds, plus a man is taken into custody for allegedly interfering with the arrest of a woman wanted on warrants.
The following information was supplied by the Ladue Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction where an arrest was made. Feb. 20: At 11:56 a.m., police responded to an attempted burglary that set off an alarm in the 1100 Block Ridgelynn Drive. An officer discovered damage to the rear door, but no entry was gained. Feb. 23: At 12:55 a.m., police arrested a 22-year-old woman on misdemeanor and felony fugitive warrants in the 10000 Block of Fieldcrest Lane. Authorities said a 61-year-old man was also arrested for interfering in the arrest of the female.

Serious crime in areas protected by St. Louis County Police Department officers has decreased in 2012, dropping to its lowest level since 1969. The total population served directly by county police is more than 410,000. Index crime statistics comparing 2012 to 2011 in the municipalities served by county officers, as well as unincorporated St. Louis County, show an overall reduction total of 8.7 percent. Kirkwood Police said two men stole NFC championship and Big 12 championship rings among other items from the home.
Two men allegedly stole more than $28,000 in electronics and jewelry, including NFC championship ring and Big 12 championship rings, on Dec. 31 from the Kirkwood home of Rob Boras, the St. Louis Rams tight ends coach. James Bright, of the 6200 block of Sunshine Drive in High Ridge, and Jeffrey Medcalf, of the 1100 block of Briarhurst in West County, were charged Friday with second-degree burglary and felony stealing more than $25,000, a class B felony. No injuries were reported. 2:53 p.m. A female, age 32 was taken into custody for stealing items from the Schnucks in Ladue Crossing. 3:29 p.m. A burglar forced entry into a home on Lorenzo Lane. On Tuesday, October 2, 2012, a burglary occurred on Eversdale Court. The following are the facts surrounding the incident: In this incident the perpetrator(s) forced entry by prying the lock on the rear patio door of the residence. The incident occurred between 2:45 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Once inside the suspects stole jewelry from the master bedroom valued at approximately $500.00. As always, if you have an alarm system please use it, keep jewelry in an inconspicuous place, and if you see any suspicious behavior or person(s) in your neighborhood please call the Ladue Police immediately at 911.

A man faces criminal charges after police said he cut himself on a broken window during a burglary in Frontenac. The man also faces charges related to selling property stolen from a Town and Country home. Jeffrey Schwartz, of the 1200 block of Still House Creek Road in Chesterfield, was charged Friday with second-degree burglary and receiving stolen property. Frontenac Police said Schwartz broke a window in a home in the first block of Portland Avenue and climbed in the house. He fled before stealing anything, but cut himself on the broken window, leaving blood behind, according to a Frontenac Police report. Police said he was identified by a DNA match. Agreed. Just because a thief or vandal else clearly does wrong, does not mean the victim is necessarily "right" or blameless. It also doesn't mean they have equal blame or most of it. Such black and white thinking on this board. Sometimes victims couldn't have done anything better. Sometimes we can all learn something from the situation...like locking things up and keeping valuables out of sight. more ›
