Frontenac Grants Provisional Use Permit to Al Manara Academy at B'Nai El Congregation

Retired Alderman Susan Durbin Honored for her years of service to Frontenac.

On Tuesday night, the Board of Aldermen for the City of Frontenac approved a conditional use permit to allow the fledgling Al Manara Academy to be located at B’Nai El Jewish Congregation at 11411 North 40 Drive. Al Manara’s mission is to uphold the Islamic concept of ilm that integrates the pursuit of knowledge with the values and promotes an outlook of balance and genuine synthesis. This will be a new school for children for students grades 8 and below and will have a maximum enrollment of 100. The school supports early exploration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Public Hearing for Cell Tower Permit at Sisters of Mercy Property in Frontenac

Some residents have shown concerns about radiation signals from cell towers.

The residents of Frontenac will have one final chance to weigh in on the cellular tower conditional use permit for the Sisters of Mercy property at 2039 N. Geyer Rd. The Board of Alderman will have a public hearing on that subject tonight at 7 p.m. Later during the meeting, the aldermen will vote on Bill No. 2012-1715 dealing with this issue. At the same meeting, Frontenac residents will be able to meet their new alderman, Mike Schoedel who will be sworn in along with returning alderpersons Margot Martin and Tom Hizar. The election results will be certified at this meeting. Hope Runs High for Frontenac Grill (formerly Old Blue Eyes).

Restaurant at former Coco’s site hopes to open in two weeks.

The fromer Coco’s building at Old Frontenac Square, 731 S. Lindbergh Blvd., is hoping to find new life as the Frontenac Grill once a couple of problems are solved.  Long time St. Louis restaurateur Mike Faille (aka Mike Talayna) has dreamed of having an upscale Italian restaurant at this site. Last year, he suffered a massive heart attack and the project languished while he recovered. During this time, the liquor license previously held at the location expired, and residents to the west signed a petition asking the city not to issue a new one. Frontenac Shows off Its New Digs

Frontenac showcased its new $10.5 million city complex at the first of two open houses held Thursday afternoon.

From the classic arched windows in the front to the meeting room featuring a new acoustical sound system and high tech video board to the exercise room for the fire and police departments, the city made sure that they covered all the bases. The site formerly housed city hall, the fire department, and police departments in buildings over 50 years old. It was time for a change and to move into the 21st century. Construction on the 37,000 square foot facility began October 2009, and on February 15, 2011, the Board of Aldermen held its first meeting in their new complex. Mayor Keith Krieg said he thought many people were “skeptical of pulling the trigger to do it.” The plans were ready in the fall of 2008 when the economy began to tank. “We …
