Star in soccer and basketball has already committed to playing at Columbia University in the Ivy League.
To say there are many outstanding female athletes at MICDS would be an understatement. But in the end, one really stands out. That would be two-sport star Caroline Militello, 17, a junior who has already agreed to play soccer at Columbia University in the Ivy League. That makes two Ivy Leaguers in the family. Her brother Thomas is a rising quarterback at Dartmouth. Militello who plays forward in basketball and attacker in soccer is the Ladue-Frontenac Patch Female Athlete of the Spring. She stands out in any crowd. Militello comes from quite an athletic family. The blood lines are good. The backyard basketball games are a real show stopper. Their dad, Mark was a standout wide receiver at Country Day School and had a distinguished career at…

This 6-foot-9 center is taking his talents to Emory University in Atlanta.
At the tender age of 5, Ladue’s Austin DaGue already knew he wanted to be a basketball player. As a student entering Ladue's Reed School, he played in the basketball league in the Olivette Athletic Association. Seeking a more competitive field, he soon transferred over to the Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club program in North City. “I faced many of the guys I have been playing against the past few years. Foye Oluokun (Burroughs), Zeke Elliott (Burroughs), Nolan Berry (DeSmet), his teammate Cornell Johnson were all there.” DaGue was taller than most in the first grade, and has since grown into the center position at 6-foot-9 (in my shoes) but a slim 180 or so pounds. DaGue had three really good years at Ladue, he was a main figure in their …

Look for your trophy in the mail, coming to a school near you.
The ball racks are all shoved in the closets. The uniforms are all cleaned and stowed away. All the whistles are packed away for the season. So what would basketball be like without some kinds of post-season awards? Drum roll please, I present to you the first-ever “Jimmy’s,” awards for the local hoop stars and starlets from your local pundit, Baer Facts author, Jimmy Baer. Where to begin? Remember, there will be a male and female winner for each award. At this popsicle stand gender is equal. The MVP’s of the season. Easy: Sydney Stipanovich of St. Joseph’s Academy and Austin DaGue of Ladue. Both are three year performers. Both players lifted their teams to lofty heights. First Stipanovich. Sydney did it all with 14 points and 11 …

Cadets highest-ranked officials pull the bone head play of the century.
I’m still trying to figure out that whole De La Salle tradition preached by the Brothers of CBC. Over the course of some four decades of prep reporting, I’ve seen my share of poor decisions and bone-head moves. The Brothers at CBC get the all-time top prize for dismissing their beloved basketball coach Bobby McCormack after 17 years at the helm. Now I’m not naive enough to believe that Bobby won the hearts and minds of everyone at the school in Town & Country. Sure, he probably rubbed a few players and parents the wrong way. But let this be crystal clear--by refusing to renew Bobby’s basketball coaching contract and pushing him out the door after 17 years of loyal service to the Purple and Gold, the school has crossed that imaginary line …

Cadets decline to renew contract of popular basketball coach. What's next?
More than a few folks in the know of local sports circles think veteran coach Bobby McCormack got the shaft at CBC. Trying to be politically correct, the Cadets did not fire the 17-year-veteran, rather they refused to renew his contract, hoping against hope that he would quietely chose to whimper off in the night. Some deal? Anyway, you will get to read Baer Facts Saturday and then draw your own conclusions. One thing is, this is not a pretty outcome. A month ago, the Cadets released their president Mike England who was at CBC for 25 years. What the heck is going on in Town and Country these days?

After 17 years as CBC’s basketball coach, Bobby McCormack has reportedly been asked to resign, according to STLhighschoolsports.com.
According to STLhighschoolsports.com, three independent sources confirmed to the publication that CBC's basketball coach Bobby McCormack has been asked to resign after 17 years in that position. This news comes after Christian Brothers College High School President Mike England resigned suddenly in January after a reported 25 years with the school. STLhighschoolsports.com stated in its article that the information was confirmed late Tuesday evening, but McCormack had not returned the publication's request for a comment on the matter. The article also stated that CBC’s Director of Communications Rob Staggenborg had no official word on the news. "A source close to CBC said McCormack has been asked to resign and that it was unlikely he would…

Starters sit the fourth quarter as Angels run past Ritenour in the semifinals, 60-31.
Clash of St. Joe and Nerinx Thursday night. The game between the St. Joseph’s Academy Angels and Ritenour Huskies in the semifinals of the Class 5 district game at Ladue was over almost the time the Angels glided onto the parking lot. Ritenour, even with a 19-6 record was no match for St. Joe. The Angels charged out the gate, per usual and steam rolled the Huskies, winning 60-31. The game was shortened with a 4th quarter running clock. The Angels are 19-5, heading into the title game Thursday night. The opponents will be a familiar crew; Nerinx Hall who handed Ladue a 68-60 loss in the nightcap. These are familiar foes. St. Joe faced Nerinx on December 8, winning 59-40. St. Joe coach Julie Matheny knows full well this is now a six game …

Erin Nelson: The season is going very well and flying by. We have improved a lot since the beginning of the year. This past month, we have really come together and picked it up in practices to prepare ourselves for a successful rest of the season. Patch: What do you like best about being on the team?
