Ladue's Austin DaGue: Patch's MVP of the Winter Season

This 6-foot-9 center is taking his talents to Emory University in Atlanta.

At the tender age of 5, Ladue’s Austin DaGue already knew he wanted to be a basketball player. As a student entering Ladue's Reed School, he played in the basketball league in the Olivette Athletic Association. Seeking a more competitive field, he soon transferred over to the Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club program in North City. “I faced many of the guys I have been playing against the past few years. Foye Oluokun (Burroughs), Zeke Elliott (Burroughs), Nolan Berry (DeSmet), his teammate Cornell Johnson were all there.” DaGue was taller than most in the first grade, and has since grown into the center position at 6-foot-9 (in my shoes) but a slim 180 or so pounds. DaGue had three really good years at Ladue, he was a main figure in their …

Austin DaGue, Ladue Basketball: Week No. 11 MVP

Three-year starter off to Emory University in the fall.

DaGue was second in scoring for Ladue with almost 12 points a game and did all the little invaluable things that led the Rams to a brilliant 21-6 record. Only a loss to Chaminade in the district finals on their home floor prevented the season from continuing. Here's what DaGue told Patch: Patch.com: Since you are a senior, what is your course of study going to be? Austin DaGue: I am studying business and playing basketball at Emory University next fall. I can’t wait to be an Eagle.   Patch: How did your season go altogether? AD: I thought my season went well. We won 21 games, and we had a big win over CBC in the D.C. Wilcutt Tournament Championship. I really enjoyed playing with and getting to know all the guys on the team.   Patch: What …

In Review: Ladue's Basketball Season Cut Short by Chaminade

Rams finish at 21-6. Shooters go cold down the stretch against the Red Devils.

This just seemed like the year the stars were all lined up right for the Ladue High basketball team. The team got hot early; took third-place in the MICDS holiday festival and shocked the daylights out of CBC, winning the Cadets own tournament with a 60-58 win over the host team. The team finally got a new hardwood floor and won all five regular home games. With a 21-5 record on the line in the district championship game, the Rams had visions of performing later in the month at Mizzou Arena. (Show Me Showdown state championships). Chaminade spoiled their travel plans. The Red Devils surged in the second half, and cruised to a 64-55 district championship Friday night in a packed Nielson Gym. The Rams pretty much lived and died by the long-…

DaGue's Dominance Inside Leads Ladue To Tournament Victory Over St. Charles

Rams' 6'9 senior center had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots in 54-38 win that advances Ladue to MICDS Tournament semifinals.

Starting early hasn't bothered the Ladue boys basketball team one bit at the 2012 MICDS Holiday Invitational Tournament. The Rams have played the opening game on both days at the MICDS, and both times have delivered superb performances to advance to the tourney semifinals. On Wednesday, it was senior Austin DaGue who led the way for Ladue, with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots in a 54-38 win over St. Charles. The Rams were playing without junior forward Andrew Maddock, who suffered a knee injury at a team practice on Sunday. Head coach Chad Anderson said he wasn't sure how bad the injury was, but that he thought it was safer to hold Maddock out of Wednesday's game until the 6'7 forward could be examined by a doctor. After the …

Fast Start, Strong Finish Carry Ladue Boys To Hoops Win Over Parkway North

Starters Cornell Johnston and Andrew Maddock each had 13 points to lead the scoring, while bench guys Connor Spirtas and Jon Collins sparked the Rams' defensive effort against the high-scoring Vikings.

CREVE COEUR -- Heading into Friday night's early-season, non-conference showdown at Parkway North High School, Ladue High boys basketball coach Chad Anderson reminded his Rams that none of his teams had ever beaten Parkway North before. The Rams and Vikings always seem to play spirited contests whenever they match up in any sport. But for whatever reason, none of Anderson's teams had ever come out on top. That all changed on Friday though, as Anderson's Rams delivered perhaps their best performance of the season to claim a 68-53 victory over the Vikes. "I kind of wanted to use that as motivation," Anderson said, after earning his first win in five seasons as Ladue coach over Parkway North. "I wanted to remind them that these guys have …

Ladue Knocks Off Eureka, Advances to Friday Night Finals of Vianney Tournament

Cornell Johnston's 12 points, 10 assists and Austin DaGue's 15 points and 11 rebounds in victory over Eureka, lead Ladue to championship game of 46th Annual Vianney event.

KIRKWOOD -- The Ladue High boys basketball team advanced to the finals of the 46th Annual Jerry Boeckman Invitational/Vianney Tournament, thanks to a thrilling 56-52 win over favored Eureka High, Wednesday night at Vianney High School. The Rams, who found out Thursday they will be the No. 10 ranked team in the city when most of the local prep basketball polls are released on Friday, showed they might deserve an even higher ranking in taking down Eureka. The Wildcats were the No. 2 seed in the Vianney Tournament, but a brilliant second half by junior point guard Cornell Johnston and several timely finishes by teammates Austin DaGue and Jordan Cosby, helped the Rams run right past Eureka, which led 27-26 at halftime. In that fateful second …

Ladue Boys Cruise To Season-Opening Hoops Win Over Archrival Clayton In First Round Of Vianney Tournament

Nearly every player on the roster scored at least one basket, and point guard Cornell Johnston dished out 11 assists, as Rams sprint past 'Hounds for 64-45 victory.

KIRKWOOD -- The most anticipated Ladue boys basketball season in nearly a decade got off to a rousing start, Monday night at Vianney High School, as the Rams walloped the archrival Clayton Greyhounds, 64-45, in a first-round game of the 46th Annual Jerry Boeckman Memorial Tournament. The Boeckman Tourney, which is also known as the Vianney Invitational Tournament, features several other top local teams, including Belleville West, Eureka, and Hazelwood Central -- teams that also won on Monday. But the marquee matchup of the night, was the evening nightcap between the longtime enemy Rams and Greyhounds. Ladue though, took all the suspense out of the game quickly, as it jumped out to a big lead in the opening minutes, and didn't let up until …

Ladue Boys Hoops Poised To Join Area Elite This Season

Rams were 19-9 last season, but with junior point guard Cornell Johnston leading the way, many believe Ladue is headed for an even better season this year.

In a year when many thought it might have to take its lumps and suffer through a rough season, the Ladue High boys basketball team turned in a terrific campaign that saw the Rams go 19-9, and win the Suburban East Conference championship again. By the time the playoffs rolled around, Ladue, with its roster full of talented underclassmen, looked like it might be on the precipice of achieving something great. Unfortunately, another talented team of underclassmen at CBC High ended Ladue's playoff run early. But bowing out before the March madness even got started last year, has done nothing but fuel the fire and what most experts believe will be a dynamite season for the Rams this year. "We feel pretty good about what we've got," Ladue head …

Ladue Rams Put The Chill On Jennings On Chili Night

12-4 Rams surge to 62-51 Suburban East victory over the visiting Warriors.

Last night it was Chili Night at Ladue. That assured a nice sized crowd would witness the game with the Jennings Warriors. Chad Anderson’s Rams were jacked for the occasion. While district families were wrapping up their hot chili and hamburgers and cold drinks, the Rams were knocking the stuffings out of the visiting Warriors. Junior Austin DaGue, had a strong game, dominating the boards on both ends of the floor with his rebounding prowess and his game-high 15 points and the Rams sealed up a 62-51 Suburban East victory. The six-foot-eight center is settling into his role of chairman of the boards for Ladue. “That was a good win for us. We dominated them on the boards. We were really up for this game. We had the band, the cheerleaders, …
