Jasiek scatters four Priory hits and Wood scores all three runs in a Burroughs 3-0 victory.
The Burroughs baseball team was definitely playing a man short during their four game swing through Florida in March. Junior lefty hurler Alex Jasiek was off playing hockey with his AAA Midget team in Pittsburgh. Jasiek has designs on playing hockey collegiately. Right now, coach Andy Katzman is thrilled to be able to pencil him into the lineup. Jasiek, who fired a no-hitter in the playoffs against Clayton last year mastered Priory on Tuesday, winning 3-0. He scattered four hits over six frames. Then Peter Schnuck , the third baseman stepped in and mopped up the seventh. “We’ve seen him before. He’s a really good one,” said Priory’s coach Gregg Muensch. “He throws well and he throws strikes, and we got hurt by a couple of walks,” said the …

MICDS and Ladue will meet in huge Monday night matchup at Queeny Park, while Burroughs won't play until Friday, when it meets Ft. Zumwalt South at the Brentwood Ice Arena.
The home stretch of the Mid-States Hockey Association regular season is definitely upon us. And with just over two weeks left until the start of the playoffs, only a few of the area's near 50 hockey-playing clubs know for sure which post-season tournament they're going to be in. John Burroughs is one of those clubs. The Bombers, 4-14 with just three games left on the schedule, already know no matter how they close out the regular season, that they'll be playing in the Founder's Cup playoffs with 12-15 other developing club hockey programs. JBS was 4-17 last year, and hoped to improve their record this year, and maybe earn a berth in the next level up Wickenheiser Cup (Wick Cup) playoffs. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen this year…

Ladue, MICDS, and John Burroughs schoolboy hockey clubs shoot for second half winning performances.
The 2012-2013 high school hockey season will hit its home stretch as soon as the calendar hits January, which will mark the beginning of the final month of the regular season. The three levels of playoffs all begin in February, so that means the 40 or so St. Louis area teams that compete in the Mid-States Club Hockey Association have just one month left to prove they deserve a spot in one of the top postseason tournaments -- either the elite Challenge Cup or the Wickenheiser Cup. For those not in the know, the Mid-States Hockey playoffs work a little differently than most other high school sports postseason tournaments. The way it works is like this: the absolute best 16 teams in the area all earn an invite into the Challenge Cup …

Mid-States Central Division rivals MICDS, Ladue, and John Burroughs are nearing the midway point of the season, and need to get pick up more wins if they're going to earn a spot in either the Challenge or Wickenheiser Cup playoffs.
With games just about every Friday and Saturday night, (and sometimes late at night), the high school hockey season has just about reached its midway point, with the three local teams enjoying varying amounts of success. Regardless of the start, it's how teams finish that will determine which of the three levels of playoffs they might qualify for when the time comes in February. And though getting invited and winning any postseason tournament is always an honor, every player on the MICDS, Ladue, and John Burroughs squads this year is hoping their team will earn a berth in either the Challenge Cup or Wickenheiser Cup playoffs. Last year, Ladue won the third-level playoff tournament (called the Founder's Cup), but was on a pace to make the …

Ladue and MICDS are hoping to play their way into the elite Challenge Cup, while John Burroughs is hoping for an improvement over last year.
The last Monday in October is always brings big doings in the Missouri high school sports world. That's because that day marks the first official day that MSHSAA winter sports teams can begin practices and tryouts. Basketball courts, wrestling mats, and swimming pools all over the state were just buzzing as athletes and their coaches took the first official steps toward what is sure to be another exciting winter sports season in Missouri. There is one winter sport though, that doesn't fall under MSHSAA's jurisdiction, and therefore can begin practicing whenever it wants -- which it has been for more than a month -- and that's the high school hockey league, which is run locally by the Mid-States Hockey Association. And surprising as it may …

Burroughs doubles up rival MICDS for 8-4 win. Rematch Sunday at Busch.
When Jackson Myer hit a slow roller for an out in the home half of the seventh for MICDS at John Burroughs Monday, that brought back memories for the Burroughs side. Myer cranked a walk-off homer at Shaw Park last May to defeat their arch rivals the Bombers for the district crown. Myer has been injured, and playing sparingly this season. “We had some evens to get,” said Bomber second-baseman Nathan Adams who is headed to Yale to play infield next season. “We didn’t forget about that one at all,” he said. Burroughs had a seven run uprising in the 5th and 6th innings to defeat their nemesis the Rams, 8-4. It was sweet revenge, but short lived. Sunday, the duo clash at Busch Stadium at 1 p.m. They have memories of that too. Last year’s game …

Hefler puts down an uprising, and Bombers crush Priory, 8-0.
No disputing the fact, sophomore Alex Jasiek was in command of all his pitches and mowed down seven batters en-route to an 8-0 victory for Burroughs over Priory Wednesday. But the play at the plate in the second inning by Bombers catcher senior Sam Hefler was worth the price of admission. Junior David Nogalski was barreling home for the go-head score in the second inning when he ran into Hefler, literally. Nogalski, who doubles as a running back in football went airborne on the Burroughs catcher. Hefler applied the perfect tag and ended the Rebels uprising. The Bombers parlayed three runs in the fourth; two in the fifth and sixth and won their sixth game of the season. “I like plays like that. I like the contact. It reminded me of the …

Miserably written. Commas are misplaced, quotes are badly attributed, and the word "fleeting" does not describe a baserunner. Sounds like somebody looked up a few synonyms and plugged them in.   more ›
