The junior sprinter blew away the field in voting for this week's honors.
This week's Patch MVP vote was not close. Madison Barker, a junior from Ladue High School took top prize, based on the strength of two district titles in the 200 and 400 meter dash, and in helping the Rams' 4x100meter and 4x400meter relay squads qualify for the state sectional track meet held this past weekend. She answered some of our questions by email before the sectional meet. Patch: How is your season going? Madison Barker: It has been going pretty well. Patch: What is the favorite thing you like about being on your team? MB: Despite being such a large team, we are all pretty close. Rams have to come from behind to defeat visiting O'Fallon, Illinois 7-6.
Once again MICDS is in the Final 4 of the Missouri Lacrosse tournament. The Rams will host CBC Tuesday in one semifinal game. The Cadets ran all over Lafayette 15-5 in their quarterfinal match. The championships will be contested over Memorial Day weekend, this Friday night, 7:30 p.m. at the Park in Fenton. In the other semifinal game, DeSmet takes on the winner of St. Louis U. Parents of Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School kindergartners have been reading to the entire kindergarten class without stepping foot in the classroom. Skype has allowed parents to serve as guest readers each month even when they cannot be on campus. Parents have been reading books from their home or office using computers and iPads while students watch and listen using the classroom's interactive SMART Board.

2-nil victory is the 31st consecutive district title for Incarnate Word Academy.
In the blink of an eye, the MICDS soccer season has come to a conclusion. Incarnate Word broke away from a scoreless first half to edge the Rams on their home field 2-nil and won the district title Thursday. There will be no more practices; no more game plans to draw up this year for MICDS. Still, the Rams shall keep their heads held erect. Thirty other teams have had the same season-ending results against the powerful North County Red Knights. This is IWA's 31st consecutive district title. Quite an achievement. “We put the pressure there. I think its tough for anyone to come onto our field and play on our turf,” said IWA’s coach Erin Hesselbach. MICDS is having another one of this stellar lacrosse seasons. They staged a come-from-behind 7-6 victory in a low scoring affair over O'Fallon, Illinois Thursday night at home. An overflow crowd took in the action. William Moorehead, who will play for Providence College, Rhode Island next year scored three times in the match. Angels throw a defensive blanket over Webster's ace Maddie Pokorney.
The way the soccer season ended for Webster Groves is not what the Statesmen had hoped for. Played before a very large crowd on a very hot day, Webster was mauled by the Angels, 4-0, losing the title game of Class 3, District 8. No matter, Websters’ squad left Frontenac with their heads held high. They played in the rarified air of a 22-3-1 season. “Every team ends the season with a crushing loss, other than the eventual state champion,” said Webster’s coach Chris Allen. “If you’d told me we’d have that kind of record, I would have told you, you are crazy.” Webster soared to new heights. Ladue started the soccer season with a win and ended with a loss, but there were lots of “W”s in between. Since records were kept accurately starting in the early 1990s, Ladue broke almost every record in the books. They tied most wins in a season with 17 and set many others. But it was Incarnate Word Academy’s day on their home field Tuesday in the semifinals of the Class 2, District soccer championships. IWA moves on to host MICDS for the title match Thursday, 4 p.m. at home. Bigger, stronger, faster, that was IWA over an inspired but outmanned Ladue squad. Lex Kaplan suspended; Rams have to play without his services.
It was not the way the Ladue Rams had intended to end a great season. John Ceriotti delivered a walk-off RBI single in the home-half of the 9th inning to edge the visiting Rams 2-1 in the district champipmnship game at St. Louis U. High. For SLUH, this registers their 23rd consecutive district title. Earlier this year on April 11, Ladue blanked SLUH, 4-0. The Rams were without the services of senior center fielder Lex Kaplan. He was ejected from Monday's semifinal win over Webster Groves with just one out to go. Serving a one-game suspension, the Rams played without his services. Little did MICDS know, but when Amber Jones scored a first-half goal on a rebound from Caroline Militello, that would be the only score of the 1-nil win over a feisty bunch of Clayton Greyhounds in the semifinals of the Class 2, District tournament at Incarnate Word. It was a torturous hot day (for both teams); the grass was tall and scruffy; the Rams were pre-occupied with final exams and there were too many games in too few days. The guy with the warmest seat today is Ladue’s Athletic Director Brian Garner. He has cleared his desk and he will be working on one single issue--trying to get the Rams star center fielder Lex Kaplan eligible for today’s district championship game at St. Louis U. High. With one out in the final inning of the game with Webster Groves, Ladue came up with a spectacular out, shortstop Michael Wielanski to third baseman Dylan Barstow on a tag opportunity. Kaplan, who came in, in relief of starter Rob Ewald was hustling over to third to help out. Something he said, got him tossed out by the base umpire.
