Ladue's Senior List: Attitude Adjuster, But Not Such a Big Deal

Perpetrators resort to leaving list in editors mailbox to get the word out!

Talk about an act of desperation? The Ladue “Senior List” got out again, and hardly anyone noticed. That's that smutty, hateful stuff juniors write about popular senior girls then distribute under the cover of darkness. I thought I had the hottest of hot news. I thought the list had just gotten out again. I called Ladue PR maven Susan Dielmann who broke my heart by telling me I was relaying some really old news. That’s what you get for being late to the rodeo. I checked some high school sources and one said: “I think I heard something about the list, but I never, ever even saw one.” What a bust. So, in an act of sheer desperation, the marauders dropped a copy in my mailbox. Trust me, Ladue students know where I live in Olivette. This is …

Red Knights Kick MICDS Soccer to the Curb

2-nil victory is the 31st consecutive district title for Incarnate Word Academy.

In the blink of an eye, the MICDS soccer season has come to a conclusion.  Incarnate Word broke away from a scoreless first half to edge the Rams on their home field 2-nil and won the district title Thursday. There will be no more practices; no more game plans to draw up this year for MICDS. Still, the Rams shall keep their heads held erect. Thirty other teams have had the same season-ending results against the powerful North County Red Knights. This is IWA's 31st consecutive district title. Quite an achievement. “We put the pressure there. I think its tough for anyone to come onto our field and play on our turf,” said IWA’s coach Erin Hesselbach. More photos on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook page. Next for the Red Knights, they will rematch…

Graduate Ladue, Then Share Your Memories With Patch

Patch Editor will be roving about the graduation reception to get your best memories; you future plans. Tell us first on Patch.

Maybe, if the Weather Gods cooperate, Ladue will have its first outdoor graduation ceremonies in years. Seems a threat of rain has pushed this event indoors the last several years. This Patch Editor (Jim Baer) will be out and about, asking the freshly-minted graduates to briefly and quickly share their favorite thoughts on video. It could be as simple as what you liked best about Ladue High, or what you plan to do with the rest of your life. Are you going to be the greatest chemist of all time? or a professional athlete? or a lifeguard on Waikiki Beach? Or something else? We are looking for 30 second video statements to share all week on both the Ladue-Frontenac and Olivette Patches. So enjoy the moment, share your thoughts and we shall …

I can't speak for "The Patch," but it is certainly customary in the regular media. I understand why the schools don't want to put it in their press releases given all the controversy over high salaries in the district, especially the Supt. who makes more than the Governor, however, it is generally SOP when introducing new high ranking employees. You have to ask. It is public information. We are …   more ›

St. Joe Converts 2 Corner Kicks for a 4-0 District Title Over Webster

Angels throw a defensive blanket over Webster's ace Maddie Pokorney.

The way the soccer season ended for Webster Groves is not what the Statesmen had hoped for. Played before a very large crowd on a very hot day, Webster was mauled by the Angels, 4-0, losing the title game of Class 3, District 8. No matter, Websters’ squad left Frontenac with their heads held high. They played in the rarified air of a 22-3-1 season. “Every team ends the season with a crushing loss, other than the eventual state champion,” said Webster’s coach Chris Allen. “If you’d told me we’d have that kind of record, I would have told you, you are crazy.” Webster soared to new heights. This was their first game contested for the district title since the 1990 season. They recorded the most wins in school history and beat Kirkwood for the …

IWA Ends Ladue's Soccer Season

Red Knights dominate semifinals of district with a convincing 4-1 win.

Ladue started the soccer season with a win and ended with a loss, but there were lots of “W”s in between. Since records were kept accurately starting in the early 1990s, Ladue broke almost every record in the books. They tied most wins in a season with 17 and set many others. But it was Incarnate Word Academy’s day on their home field Tuesday in the semifinals of the Class 2, District soccer championships. IWA moves on to host MICDS for the title match Thursday, 4 p.m. at home. Bigger, stronger, faster, that was IWA over an inspired but outmanned Ladue squad. Sometimes, the Rams got pushed around like gag dolls. Elly Freesmeier was poetry in motion. She battled Ladue tooth and nail. Kelsey Murphy was a scoring machine, beating Ladue keeper…
