We went at 6pm on a Sunday night looking forward to a nice steak which we have previously enjoyed at the Kirkwood location. While our server went over the nightly specials we learned they were out of the strip steak and also the pork chops. I'm confused how you are out of basic menu items at the beginning of dinner service when the restaurant was sparsely occupied. Send someone down to Dierbergs or the Des Peres Schnucks which have premium meats available! Food was good but not spectacular and service was nice.We had a gift certificate from the Kirkwood location which has closed. We had previously called to verify they would accept the certificate and had been told they would. After dining, $160 plus for 4 before tip, we were told they would not accept the certificate. A woman, I presume to be the manager since she didn't identify herself, came out to speak with us with some story about her son-in-law and a divorce and if she accepted the certificate, she wouldn't make any money. Whatever the family situation is frankly isn't my concern or interest. I know the goal is to make money but seemed to be her main focus. If she couldn't honor the whole certificate, seems like they could have offered something but no. We tipped 20% since the issue was not with the service but we will probably not be back.
