St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society Installs 2011 Officers

Frontenac Hilton Hotel Hosts Annual SLMMS Gala Event.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society presented its Annual Meeting and Installation Banquet on January 15, 2011 at the St. Louis Frontenac Hilton Hotel. Thomas A. Applewhite, M.D. was installed as 2011 President of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society.  Sam Hawatmeh, M.D., 2010 SLMMS President, preceded Applewhite, and will continue to serve in an advisory capacity during 2011.

In his Installation Address, The House of Medicine United, Dr. Applewhite explained the need for common goals and a unified vision among physicians. Such collaboration, he asserted, will result in better service to the community. "There is power in many diverse participants sharing a unified cause," Applewhite said. "Physicians must learn to work with hospitals, insurance companies and universities, for the betterment of our patients and society at large."

Dr. Applewhite was accompanied by his wife, Claire, and their three children Bonnie, Tom and Timothy. Father James Tobin, S.M., of Our Lady of the Pillar Church in Creve Coeur delivered the Invocation. Richard Lauenstein and the Chasers Fore provided the music for the evening. More than 175  family members and friends attended the event, including Alice and Howard Handelman of Frontenac.
