Another Patch Give 5 Day

This Opportunity Takes This Editor to Ronald McDonald House Charities Administrative Offices.

Five times a year, local editors are given the opportunity to leave their offices and their Patch for the day, and spend it productively out in the community doing a volunteer project. Giving back to the community is a big part of who we are, and what we do.

This time, the local editor spent a day at the administrative offices of the Ronald McDonald House Charities at the local house near Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. RMDH Charities has three local houses serving Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, the house on West  Pine Boulevard serving Barnes Jewish Hospital and the house on Park Avenue for Glennon Hospital.

The houses serve as a home away from home for parents and siblings visiting sick and injured children at the local hospitals. RMDH Charities depend heavily on donations and volunteer hours to keep things going.

The task of the editor was profiling a volunteer from Mehlville who has been with the organization all 30 years of its existence. Only three volunteers have been with RMDH Charities the total amount of time.

It was an honor and a privilege to spend most of the day, working with the professional staff at the headquarters operation. They even fed me lunch.
