Yesterday Was A Momentus One for the University of Missouri Athletics

July 1 marked Mizzou's admittance to the Southeast Conference

Todd McCubbin, Executive Director of the Missouri Alumni Association contributed this information:

Yesterday was a historic day for the University of Missouri. The excitement has been building since last November and today we are proud to officially become a member of the Southeastern Conference.

For nearly 80 years, the conference has exhibited success in the classroom as well as on the playing field. With proven success, our new conference home is one of the premiere athletic conferences in the nation and offers the university long-term stability.

We've talked a lot about what the move means for athletics, but there is a tremendous academic impact, as well. The Southeastern Conference Academic Consortium, formed in 2005, was created to advance academic excellence through collaboration. By joining the SEC family, we will forge new partnerships with our sister institutions that will enhance educational opportunities for our students, faculty, and university leadership.

Alumni around the country have been re-energized by our membership in the SEC. More than ever before, alumni and friends are supporting Mizzou through membership in the Mizzou Alumni Association as we reached an all-time high of 44,415. In the past few months, 15 alumni chapters have either formed or reorganized. From Minneapolis to Birmingham and Portland to Jacksonville, volunteers have been hosting activities to keep alumni connected to the university we love.
