Patch Picks: Events and Happenings June 11 - 17

Here's what's happening in and near Ladue, Clayton and University City this week.

Ladue-Frontenac Patch teams up with neighboring Patch sites each week to round up events and happenings in the area. Here are our picks for this week.

Monday, June 11

  • The Ladue School Board work session is at 6 p.m.
  • The Council will meet on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
  • Kids ages 5 to 9 are invited to a special event at the on Monday at 2 p.m. The “Around the Campfire” event will give kids some of the fun of camping without all the work. Visit the library’s website for additional information and to register.
  • Teens in grades 6 to 12 are invited to a Teen Pizza Taste-Off at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters on Monday from 7 to 9 pm. Visit the library’s website for additional information and to register.

Wednesday, June 13

  • It’s time for in Clayton. On Wednesday at 5 p.m., residents and guests should head to Downtown Clayton on Meramec Ave. between Fosyth and Maryland to join in the festivities. Local pop band Pop N’ Rocket and are on tap for entertainment, as is half-priced beer from 5 to 5:30. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.   • in Clayton will feature the abstract paintings of artist Sheldon Johnson in his exhibit “If This Be Not I” on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also featured will be wildlife photographer Jim Irwin and mixed-media artist Marilyn Callahan.   • The University City Traffic Commission will meet on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
  • The University City Public Library is hosting a free computer class on web email accounts on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. No registration required. Learn more at the library’s website.

Thursday, June 14—Flag Day

  • Want a Taste of U City? You can taste food and drink from more than 30 local businesses on Thursday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the 560 Music Center in University City. Tickets are $15 per person, or $25 for two people if you purchase in advance. Visit the University City Chamber of Commerce’s website for additional information and to purchase tickets.
  • The University City Green Practices Commission will meet on Thursday at 6:30. There’s also an informational meeting on the Loop Media Hub Feasibility Study on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Black Box Theatre at the Center of Creative Arts (COCA).
  • The City of Clayton is participating in the St. Louis Cardinals American Red Cross World Series Blood Drive on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at The Center of Clayton. Everyone who tries to donate will receive a t-shirt while supplies last. For more information, visit the city’s website.
  • The is hosting a public open house and forum to show and discuss the design plan for a “rain garden,” also called a bio-retention system, on Thursday at 7 p.m. at The Heights. Visit the city’s website for additional information.

Friday, June 15

  • The city of Clayton’s Board of Aldermen will hold a strategic discussion session on Friday at 3 p.m.
  • New Line Theatre’s version of the rock musical HIGH FIDELITY will run at on Friday. The show will run through June 23. For more information, visit the theatre’s website.

Saturday, June 16

  • in Clayton will feature the band Cashmere on Saturday at 8 p.m.
  • in Clayton is featuring an exhibit from artist Craig Downs. His June Bug exhibit features a number of paintings in his unique style. The exhibit will remain open until July 15.
  • If you’re a Marianne Williamson fan, you’ll be interested in knowing that she’ll be in University City on Saturday at Namaste India, which has teamed up with Yoga & Spa magazine to make it happen. The eent will benefit Room to Read, a charity that helps educate children in underprivileged areas.   • Looking for a good book? Check out the Annual Used Book Fair at the on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as on Sunday.   • Ylang-Ylang at Frontenac Plaza is hosting a Father’s Day Trunk Show on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information, visit Plaza Frontenac’s website.
  • Preschoolers ages 2 to 6 are invited to a special Preschool Dance Party at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Visit the library’s website for additional information and to register.

Sunday, June 17—Father’s Day

  • The St. Louis Artists’ Guild presents the Ann Metzger Memorial National All Media Exhibition. The exhibit is free and open to the public. It will open on Sunday at 1 p.m. and will run through Saturday, Aug. 11. For more information, visit the Guild’s website.
