Ladue Graduate John Gaskin Elected to Leadership Position With the NAACP

Recognized for his achievements at the recent national convention in Houston.

As the recent National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), 103rd annual National Convention in Houston Texas, the NAACP elected youth leaders that will serve their individual youth members throughout the nation.

John Gaskin III, a sophomore at Benedictine College in Atchison Kansas, and a 1911 Ladue High graduate was elected by a majority as chairman of the National Youth Work Committee (NYWC). The committee Represents 27 youth and adults from across the nation, representing various regions of the NAACP. He is the first chairman ever elected to this position from Missouri.

In his new role as chairman he will create plans of action to increase youth involvement in the organization and recommend policies and best practices for youth units across the nation also in New England and as far away as Europe. Gaskin’s leading task is to serve as a liaison between the National Board of Directors, President  & CEO, and national field director Rev. Charles White.

Gaskin will also serve as an ex-officio member of the NAACP National Board of Directors.  Gaskin returns to the Committee as a senior member representing Midwest Region IV Which includes Nebraska, Missouri, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa and Colorado.

Gaskin assumed the chairmanship at the closing of the NAACP Annual Convention.
