Bikers Halfway Across--The Centuries are Getting Easier

The entourage has reached Minnesota and the mountains of the west are in thei rear view mirrors.

Somewhere in Minnesota...Our local rider Larissa Powers say the American Lung Association travelers are halfway home and feeling pretty good about their prospects.

Why not, the trip is halfway over; they've traveled some 1,500 miles since slipping out of Seattle June 18 and Washington, D.C. and the long journey's end is within their collective grasp.

Larissa has been sleeping in a tree hammock, enjoying the stars at night. They are traveling through rural Minnesota, expecting to cross over into Viroqua, WI July 17.

Sunday offers a rare full day off rest in New Ulm, MN. There will be no biking that day.

The west was beautiful but forboding. Stong gale force head winds made going forward difficult for everyone. Still, they snapped off lifetime photos of royal gorges, cascading water falls and the overall beauty and majesty of the Rocky and Teton mountains.

"It just seems like the centuries are getting easier and easier," said Powers from Minnesota.

For the sake of everyone, they will never see such high elevations again as they did while traveling through Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. The Poconos and the mountains of Pennysylvania won't be nearly as steep.

No doubt, these riders will have great stories to tell once they get to their homes. Enjoy the vistas and views from the road out west and the central plains of the upper Midwest.
