American Lung Association Bike Riders Have Just 8 Days to Go

The journey traveling 3,300 miles from Washington state to Washington, D.C. ends on the Mall August 4.

Somewhere in Ohio...The mental calendar for the riders is turning pages almost as fast as the bikes are pedaling along. Our local star Larissa Powers, school teacher at MICDS says the century rides are getting easier as the end is in sight, and the terraine is distinctly flatter.

The bikers are currently in Ohio and have one more rest day on August 2 in Gettysburg, PA. The riders have a real sense of history, having taken in the mountain west including the Cascades and the Rockies. They stopped briefly at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota and the Gettysburg stop will give them another chance to look around and experience Civil War history.

On August 4, a two-hour reception in Washington, D.C. will be thrown in their honor, making the end of this summer adventure.

This has been quite the trip for Powers. She injured her knee the first day out, yet continued on and will make that finish line with her 17 traveling companions.

Likely, the bikers will have enough photos and stories to tell to write a book or a lengthy feature.

Patch, of course will catch up to Powers to get her recollections of this once-in-a-lifetime trip.
