Twellman Soccer To Hold Soccer Camp at Villa Duchesne

The camp, which is for high school and college age males and females, will be held Aug. 1-4.

The beginning of fall practices for area high school athletes is right around the corner, with the first eligible day of practice being Aug. 8.

Tim Twellman, a former professional soccer player and coach at Villa Duchesne, felt that the timing was right to hold a summer camp for area high school and college soccer players.

Twellman, along with his brother Mike, who is also a former professional player, will be running a high school/college pre-season warm-up at Villa Duchesne.

There will be four sessions, Aug. 1, 2, 3 and 4, beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting two hours.

"We have been doing this for several years," Twellman said. "We are looking at a week before tryouts for the high school players and just before the college players might be leaving for school."

The camp will focus entirely on soccer and not on fitness according to Twellman.

"More than anything we want to get these players as many touches as we can and doing something which might be outside their comfort zone," Twellman said. "There will be a lot of technical work. We want to get everyone in the right mind-set for their upcoming season."

Twellman said that there are still some openings for the camp.

"We want to keep the group fairly small so we can provide a lot of individual attention," he said. "I really like working with this age group. It is very enjoyable."

Twellman said that the boys and girls will train together. There are already several girls who are in the mix although there will likely be more boys since their high school season is in the fall (the girls play in the spring).

"We are going to work on all aspects of the game," Twellman said. "What it comes down to is eight hours of training and just getting comfortable with the game."
