Top Track & Field Stars Head to Sectional Finals Saturday

Dominant performances by MICDS, Villa girls and Burroughs boys.

There is just one more qualifying round for the state track meet before Missouri’s elite runners and field stars go to the state track meet at Dwight Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University May 24-25 in Jefferson City.

The unfinished business is sectional championships for the large schools (Ladue and St. Joe at Parkway North) and the smaller schools, (MICDS, Burroughs and Villa) at MICDS Saturday. Top performers will be in Jeff City Memorial Day weekend to make history.

Class 4 District 2 at Ladue

The Rams hosted the meet, but did not sweep the field. Madison Barker, a junior had a strong performance Saturday on the Ladue oval.

She captured first in the 200 meter dash in 25.64 and first in the 400 meter dash in 58.44.

Ladue’s Brandon Harrison won the high jump in 6-foot-2 and Adehkeem Brown was second. also at 6-2 but had more misses. The Ladue girls won the 4 x 400 relay in 4:07.72 and Kaitlen Crawford was second in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

Lucy May, senior from St. Joseph’s Academy captured second in the 800 meters in 2:18.80 and second in the 1600 meters in 5:03.37.

MICDS and Burroughs Dominate Class 3, District 2 at MICDS

One of the biggest performances went almost unnoticed. Burroughs’ pole vaulter Andrew Barnett captured the gold of the pole vault in 15-feet-3 inches, tying the top performance spot in the Metro this year.

The Burroughs boys swept the meet with 157 points; MICDS was second with 120. On the girls side, MICDS won with 126 points, a vastly improved Villa squad was second with 118. The Saints have 24 out for track this spring and 12 of them participated in the district championships.

MICDS senior CeCe Moore won the 800 meter run in 2:21.24.

MICDS’ Ravon Lingard won the triple jump in 35-feet-7 inches. Alexa Smith of MICDS captured the pole vault in 9-feet-4 inches.

Sophomore Elise Marker of Villa won the 3200 meter run in 11:48.08. Jaelin McGull of John Burroughs won the discus in 149-feet-10 inches and was third in the shot put. Villa's Kendra Hercules ws first in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.12.
