MICDS Sweep District Track Titles

The Ram girls dominate and the boys also win at the Class 3 District 3 Meet at MICDS.

MICDS track teams made the most of what was a very ugly situation Saturday at the Class 3 District 3 Meet at MICDS.

The Rams captured both the boys and girls team championships on the dreary, cold and rainy day.

"I've been to a lot of track meets in my 41 years of coaching and this was one of the ugliest days I have seen," Villa Duchesne coach Steve Miller said.

But the efforts by the Ram athletes were far from ugly.

"This is the first time in my 16 years here that the boys and girls have both won a  district title," MICDS coach Jim Lohr said. "We have had some one's and two's where the girls were first and the boys second or the boys first and the girls second."

But this accomplishment was a first for the Rams.

"The girls have been extremely solid all season and they had a spectacular day," Lohr said. "The boys had not put it all together coming into the meet but they also had a very good day. I always remind them that they do not want the district meet to be their best meet and they certainly understand that. They are hungry for what lies ahead."

And that includes the sectional meet at Mexico High School Saturday, followed by the state meet in Jefferson City the next weekend.

The top four individuals from each district qualify for sectional competition where they will go up against the top four in each event from Class 3 District 4. The top four at sectionals go to state.

The MICDS girls ran away with the team title with an amazing 244.5 points. University City was a very distant second with 83 points.

"I have to tip my hat to MICDS," University City coach Matt Keller said. "They were amazing today."

The Ram girls finished first in 14 different events. Lauren Waterbury won three district titles. She won the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and long jump.

Audrey Imbs won both the 800 and 1,600-meter run.

The Rams finished one, two and three in the high jump with Julia Olson, Katherine Cella and Kate Pfager all clearing 4-10.

Other MICDS district champs included: Heather Cousins (100); Grace Bridwell (3,200); Madison Mann (300 hurdles); Haley Pryor (pole vault); Josalynn Smith (shot put) and Elizabeth Mueller (triple jump).

The Rams were also victorious in three of the relays, the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 and finished second in the 4x800.

Other sectional qualifers include: Olson (third in the 100), Ce Ce Moore (fourth in the 400); Rin Palmer (second in the 800); Mann (third in the 100 hurdles); Cameron Jackson (second in the 300 hurdles); Hannah Akre (third in the pole vault); Yasmin Musaddiq (second in discus and third in the shot put) and Raven Lingard (fourth in the triple jump).
