MICDS Soccer Scoring Machine Keeps on Rolling

Rams beat Burroughs 4-0 for 9th consecutive win this season.

Editors note: The Rams won at St. Charles West late Fridaym running the record to 10-1. Klasey Medelberg scored 2 goals in the win.

The MICDS soccer team has won all 9 games this season (going into Friday’s road match at St. Charles West). The Rams are looking a little road weary right now.

Coaches tend to over schedule the early season, knowing weather will cancel some games. Though temperatures have been downright frigid, and skies overcast, the Rams have played them all.

They are ending a four game schedule this week and looking forward to a weekend breather. Tuesday, Lutheran South comes calling.

Thursday, Claire Ringenberg wound up scoring twice (numbers 5 and 6 this season), leading the Rams to a 4-0 shutout over rival John Burroughs. Klasey Medelberg (8th of the season) got things going, drilling a solo shot past Burroughs keeper Evie Oglesby at 25:12 of the first half.

That win always feels good, especially against a rival and especially nearing the end of a very long week.

Everyone is getting to play

Coach Michael Black is using his entire lineup. Reserves like Kera Bussey Sims, Mary Sant and Cassandra Collins are getting plenty of playing time too.

About the two goals: “I’m very happy about that,” said Ringenberg, a midfielder.

Beating Burroughs is fun, but both Ringenberg and Columbia University bound Caroline Militello took it all in stride.

“It was a good opportunity to work on our passing and our shooting” said Ringenberg.

Militello thinks the rivalry thing is a little overblown.

“For my two sports (basketball and soccer), its not a big thing. I don’t know? “We did try and get the word out. We worked on getting people to come to the game. Our managers sent out a bunch of emails,” she said.

Black was happy with the 9th consecutive victory. “I was pleased. We’re in this very busy stretch of our schedule and I’ve been very pleased with all of their efforts. Today, its a little colder and people are a little lethargic but they kept working at it, especially the last 10 minutes where we got some good results.”

One was the free kick by freshman Taylor Baur with less than a minute left in regulation. She drilled it home for the 4th and final goal.

Black tipped his cap to the Burroughs defense. “Obviously they are well coached and they are smart girls and always a challenge to play them,” said Black.

The view from Burroughs

Back to the drawing board for Bombers coach Alan Trzecki.

His goalie, Evie Ogelsby, a freshman did a nice job. “She played a good game. She’s not a goalie by trade,” said Trzecki. “As she makes some mistakes, she’s going to learn and grow from them.”

The Bombers moved last year’s goalie Sarah Botteron  to mid field, seeking more offense.

Trzecki thinks MICDS is really solid. “They have some very good players, especially up front and through the middle, there’s a lot of speed and talent there. Especially Klasey Medelberg. She’s a special player,” said the Burroughs coach.
