MICDS Hockey Evens Record With Solid Win Over John Burroughs

Junior Peter Condie's two third-period goals help lift Rams to 4-1 victory over Bombers.

MANCHESTER -- The MICDS boys hockey team continued its surge to a possible berth in the Wickenheiser Cup or Challege Cup playoffs this season, by evening its record and winning its second straight game, 4-1, Monday evening at the Queeny Park Ice Rink against Mid-States Central Division rival John Burroughs.

The Rams, who are now 7-7-2 this season, and are at least hopeful of earning a spot in the Wick Cup playoffs, with an outside chance at making the upper-level Challenge Cup postseason tournament, were led by junior Peter Condie, who had two goals and senior Matthew Myer who had a goal and two assists in the win for Ladue.

Burroughs, which fell to 4-12 on the year, got its lone goal late in the third period, when freshman Ari Padda and sophomore Connor Krause pulled off a pretty passing play to set up senior Joshua Becker for his third goal of the season.

That made the score 2-1 MICDS, with just over four minutes left in the game.

But that was as close as the Bombers would get, as the Rams scored a mere 15 seconds later, on a similar pretty passing play by Brandon Klar and Matthew Myer that allowed Condie to score his second goal of the night (and second of the third period) and is fifth goal of the year.

The helper was also Klar's second assist of the night, and allowed him to take over as area leader in assists this season with 23.

Myer is fifth in the area with 17 assists, but also got his team-leading 11th goal, in the final seconds, when he scored an empty-net goal to clinch the Ram victory.

The other exciting news on the night is talented junior James Horlacher scored his first goal of the season to give MICDS its original lead late in the second period.

With just five games left in the regular season, MICDS seems a good bet to make the Wick Cup.

Regardless, the Rams can improve their stock and playoff resume with victories in those five games against Webster Groves, Ladue, Francis Howell North, Lindbergh, and Whitfield.

The next matchup for MICDS is Friday, when the Rams will play Webster Groves at the Webster Groves Recreation Center.

Opening face-off that night is schedule for 8:45 p.m.

Burroughs, which has lost three straight games and seems a sure bet for the third-level Founder's Cup playoffs this year, will be back on the ice on Thursday, in a matchup at Queeny Park against Ladue High.

That set of Rams won the Founders Cup last year, and at 4-8-2 this year, are likely to be back in that tournament again come February.
