MICDS Girl's Lacrosse Wins Third in a Row

The Rams get four goals from Anna Clarkson and Sophie Critchfield-Jain in a 14-4 win over Parkway West Friday.

The MICDS girls lacrosse team took a trip to Memphis March 20 to open their 2012 season.

It was not pretty.

"The team we played was really quick," MICDS senior captain Anna Clarkson said. "I think the final score was 16-3."

It was truly an eye opener for the Rams and their first year head coach, Traci Nelson.

But it appears that it was a lesson learned as MICDS has started out its league season with three convincing victories, including a 14-4 triumph over Parkway West Friday at MICDS.

The Rams have scored 40 goals in their three league games while giving up just 16.

"We love the new coach and are excited about the season," said Clarkson, who has scored 16 goals in the first four Ram games this season. "Today we worked a lot on reading the defense and communication. I think this team has the capability of doing a lot of good things this season."

The Rams dominated from the very beginning Friday against the Longhorns. Sophie Critchfield Jain and Clarkson, who both finished with four goals in the game, set the tone with goals 15 seconds apart in the first minute and a half of the game.

MICDS expaned their lead to 6-0 midway through the first half as Emily Kyman scored a pair of goals.

Parkway West would score back-to-back goals but Critchfield-Jain scored late in the first half to give the Rams a 7-2 halftime advantage.

Clarkson scored two more goals and Critchfield-Jain and Hannah Akre added goals in the first seven minutes of the second half as the Rams took complete control of the game. Claire Townsley and Molly Scott would add late goals for the Rams.

"The game in Memphis was a rude awakening for us," Nelson said. "But it gave us an idea of things we needed to work on such as transition in the midfield and team chemistry.

"There is still a lot to work on. Their goalie made 18 saves today so we definitely need to work on shot placement. Our bigger games are toward the end of the season so we have time to prepare. I just want the girls to put 100 percent into everything they do and I feel they did that today. It was a great effort from beginning to end."
