Rashad Lindsey Leads Rams to Win over St. Mary's In Non-League Match

The sophomore guard hits five 3-pointers and scores 25 points in a 60-48 victory at MICDS.

MICDS sophomore guard Rashad Lindsey is traveling to the University of Indiana this weekend to watch the Hoosiers take on the top-ranked team in college basketball, the University of Kentucky.

He can only hope to see the kind of shooting display that he and St. Mary's guard Jon Connelly put on Friday night.

Connelly hit six 3-pointers and scored 26 points. Lindsey almost matched him point for point as he hit five 3-pointers and had 25 points in leading the Rams to a 60-48 victory at MICDS.

"I've worked hard with Coach A.T. (Aaron Thompson) on my shot and he has helped me out a lot," Lindsey said. "My main role is to still get everybody involved and touching the ball, though."

The point guard did that with some dandy dishes, several coming in crucial parts of the game.

"Rashad is coming along and making some strides," MICDS coach Matt Hixenbaugh said. "We are trying to get into a rhythm with three sophomores and three football players. It times we looked really good tonight and at times we did not."

One of the good times came in the first five minutes of the game as MICDS jumped out to a double digit lead at 14-3 after a three-point play by William Morehead.

"We have been getting off to slow starts and getting down by 10 points," Lindsey said. "A focus tonight was a good start and we were able to do that and were able to dictate the game."

MICDS never trailed in the game but things got interesting at times with the outside shooting of Connelly and his sophomore teammate, Josh Robinson.

"They are quite a tandem," Hixenbaugh said. "And St. Mary's is such a well-coached team. You can't get anything easy against them."

The last 15 points of the first half came on 3-pointers, a pair each by Lindsey and Connelly and one by Robinson. The trey by Robinson brought the Dragons to within three at 29-26 at halftime.

St. Mary's cut the deficit to two points twice in the third quarter, the last at 33-31. But Lindsey hit a 3-pointer as did Thomas Militello and the Rams led by nine going into the fourth quarter. MICDS would extend its lead to as many as 15 points in the final quarter.

Militello added 14 points and sophomore Robin Thompson had nine for the Rams, who improved to 3-1.

Robinson had 13 to go along with Connelly's 26 for the Dragons, who fell to 2-2.
