Life-sized Rally Squirrel Could Make a Difference
Energy was palpable in Kiener Park pre-game the World Series.
Cardinals fans came out in droves for the first game of the World Series. Regardless of the fact that this is the Eleventh World Series with five pennants under their belt, fans gathered at Kiener Park for the pre-game rally as if this was the first time the Cards made it to the series.
Energy was high and the music was loud as people drank, danced and partied in the park. Food and beverages were readily available to anxious fans waiting for the game to start. Smash band played classic rock hits that everyone recognized.
Of course people were dressed in the usual Cardinals red, sporting embroidered jerseys, t-shirts and jackets advertising the team and their favorite player. But, it was those who added the now famous Rally Squirrel that drew the most attention. Some wore squirrels on the shoulders, hats and backs, while others became a squirrel wearing a complete squirrel costume. Chris Vance of Alton, Illinois became a six foot squirrel. His wife, Joy Vance said, “He came out of the bedroom wearing it. It is a dress rehearsal for a Halloween Party coming up.”

The Rally Squirrel ran across the field two times and both times the Cards won. Could all of the toy squirrels worn by fans and the fans in squirrel costumes lend a little luck tonight? Let’s hope. Good Luck Cards!
