Ladue Varsity Girls Lacrosse Continue Unbeaten Streak with a Close Win Over John Burroughs School

The Rams, ranked No. 1 in the state, pulled off the win against a tough John Burroughs team.

Everything it promised to be--it was. The Ladue Rams slid by the John Burroughs Bombers 10-8 in a match that saw the lead change hands three times.

The game was not the style that Ladue is used to. Burroughs challenged an early breakout lead by Ladue. In the first few minutes, Ladue was up 3-1. Burroughs answered with 2 goals , then Ladue notched one more to make the score 5-3 at the half.

Much of the first half was spent on defense for Ladue, a team that has dominated its opponents in possession time and scoring. A talented Burroughs team seemed to hold the ball indefinitely, putting Ladue’s defense to the test.

Becca Langsam who leads the league in goals against average was dazzling in goal making 14 saves.

“She was absolutely brilliant in goal,” said Ladue goalie coach Alisha Miyazawa  after the game. “She was really on top of her game today.”

In the second half, the Rams lost their lead and were down one goal as Burroughs continued to hold the ball. That was when Elena Gresick charged into high gear, first tying the score. A few minutes later, Gresick broke the 6-6 tie with her second goal with 9:43 left to play.

A couple of minutes later the Rams were playing their game with better ball control and longer possessions. The sister act of Cam and Carter Newton connected, as senior Carter set up freshman Cam to score. Parker Harrington topped off the lead with a final Ladue goal. Burroughs scored with minutes remaining but could not overcome the deficit.

Carter Newton scored again to seal the win.

A normally subdued Ladue team celebrated their win. All of Ladue's remaing games are at home. The season ends May 11 and the Midwest championship tournament starts May 12.
