Ladue Rolls Past Duchesne For Fifth Win in a Row

Deavin Edwards scores four first half touchdowns and Brandon Carr throws three touchdown passes in 52-7 victory at Duchesne.

Ladue's football game at Duchesne Thursday night had all the makings of a "trap" game.

For one, the game was played on a Thursday night on a short week. It came against a non-conference opponent which had lost three games in a row.

And it came a week before the start of districts and a huge game next weekend against MICDS.

But Ladue was not trapped in the least as it dominated from start to finish. The Rams scored early and often in a 52-7 victory.

"I was very proud and happy with the way we played tonight," Ladue coach Mike Tarpey said. "One of the focuses this week was to come out strong and we were able to do that. This was about as complete a game as we have played from start to finish."

The defense did its part with five turnovers. The Rams had four interceptions. The first one by Daniel Koslovsky set up the first score of the game as Deavin Edwards scored on a 1-yard run less than three minutes into the contest. That score was set up by Edwards' 24-yard run.

Edwards, who had gained over 200 yards rushing in each of his previous three games, only touched the ball eight times on offense Thursday night. He scored on four of them.

The running back had four rushes for 124 yards and three scores and also scored on a 45-yard pass reception.

That was one of three touchdown passes thrown by Brandon Carr. He also connected with Michael Horton-Loftin for a 10-yard touchdown and Chase Lambie for a 23-yard score.

The Rams led 21-0 after the first quarter and had a comfortable 35-7 halftime advantage.

Eric Stuber, who was successful on all seven of his extra point attempts, added a 37-yard field goal early in the second half.

Horton-Loftin added his second touchdown as most of the second half was played with a running clock.

"The coaches make the game fun for us and it is fun to block for all the offensive weapons we have," said offensive tackle Habtamu Workineh, who is one of the Ladue captains. "We wanted to come out scoring from the first drive tonight and we did. We have some weapons in guys like Michael (Horton-Loftin), Jehu (Chesson) and Deavin (Edwards). We just try to give those guys as big a hole as we can but sometimes they do it all by themselves."

The Rams enter Saturday's game at MICDS with a 5-2 record.

"We are really excited and ready to start districts and play MICDS," Workineh said.
