Sophomore Jordan McClendon led the way with 14 points and nine rebounds, as Bombers put away visiting Lady Hawks.

It wasn't very pretty, but all in all, it was pretty effective.

That's the sentiment the John Burroughs girls basketball team left the Olin Fieldhouse on the JBS campus with Tuesday evening, after finishing off a thrilling 33-15 victory over the Lift for Life Academy of St. Louis.

Burroughs, which came into the new season having lost 10 of its last 11 to end last year, made sure to kick off its new campaign in style by jumping out to a quick 8-0 lead, and never looking back in its first matchup ever against Lift for Life.

The Bombers never trailed, and except for a brief moment at the end of the third quarter, were never really threatened.

Lift for Life did seem like it might make a game of it, following a banked-in three-pointer by junior Jermisha Irons that made the score 20-15 heading into the fourth quarter.

But that's when the Bombers ratcheted up the defense, and held the Lady Hawks scoreless for the entire fourth quarter, while scoring 16 unanswered points of their own, to turn what was a close ballgame into a blowout.
