Golf Tips with Rick Ewing

Core Strength is the Third Step for Getting Your Golf Game in Shape This Season.

Each week, Rick Ewing, Director of Instruction at Old Warson Country Club gives golfers tips on getting your game in shape this season. If you would like to ask a question, email Rick at rickewing@pga.com.

I have put flexibility as number three because I don't feel it is as important as the first two.  Don't get me wrong, it is important but to a lesser degree.  Some people may struggle with flexibility or have other issues that limit there range of motion.  Therefore, I emphasize forearm and core strength first.

Personally, I have never met a golf swing that was too short, meaning a smaller range of motion can actually help a golf swing (eliminates some moving parts).  I feel flexibility training is most important in two areas - shoulders and hips.  If you can increase flexibility in these two areas then you will be able to increase power, accuracy and consistency.
