Becky Sauerbrunn Named Women's National Team Captain; USA Beats China

The Olivette native and Ladue Horton Watkins High School graduate was named captain for Friday's match.

Becky Sauerbrunn has an Olympic Gold medal, and now she can also say that she's been a Captain of the United States Women's National Team.

Sauerbrunn, the Olivette native who played her prep soccer at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, had the honors in Friay's 5-0 win over China in the Algarve Cup Tournament, played in Portugal.

"Great win by the #uswnt team today! Defenders scoring, a first appearance, and a clean sheet. Not a bad day at all," she Tweeted Friday.

According to socccermadeinstlouis.com, Sauerbrunn becomes the sixth St. Louis area soccer player to have the honor with the Men or Women's National team.
