Athletes of the Spring To Be Announced This Week

The feature on the Female Athlete of the Spring will run Wednesday and the Male Athlete of the Spring profile will run the next day.

The balls and equipment have been put away and the uniforms have been turned in for local athletes after a memorable spring season for the five schools in the Ladue-Frontenac Patch coverage area (Ladue, St. Joseph's Academy, MICDS, John Burroughs and Villa Duchesne).

There were plenty of highlights during the regular season and in many cases the post-season as well.

Local teams were able to celebrate team state championships and several individuals came home with gold medals from the state meet.

In many seasons, selecting a Player of the Year would be a fairly easy process.

But the spring of 2011 has seen many area athletes accomplish many oustanding feats whether on the track, on the field or on the court.

The Ladue-Frontenac Patch began its athlete of the season award during the winter with Grant Wallace of John Burroughs and Maddie Stock of St. Joseph's Academy as our inaugural recipients.

The best of the best of the spring will be recognized with profiles this week.

The Female Athlete of the Spring will be named Wednesday while the Male Athlete of the Spring will be profiled Thursday.

It was a tough decision which only means that there were many special and memorable moments from the season. Let's hope that every season has so many deserving candidates.

Congratulations to all the Rams (MICDS and Ladue), Bombers, Saints and Angels for a rewarding and fun spring season. Good luck to the seniors who will be headed to college in the fall and we look forward to watching and covering the exploits of the underclassmen in the fall and for seasons to come.
