Area Football Teams Hit the Road This Weekend

Ladue and MICDS play Friday night while John Burroughs will play Saturday afternoon.

Ladue and St. Louis University High were both in position to win its 2011 openers Friday night.

The Rams took an early fourth quarter lead on a 70-yard pass from Brandon Carr to Jehu Chesson. But Parkway Central followed with 22 unanswered points in a 31-14 win.

SLUH lost a heart-breaker to another Parkway school. The Junior Bills tied the game with 2:10 to play on a 14-yard pass from Trevor McDonagh to Paul Simon. But Parkway North kicked a field goal on the last play of the game for a 38-35 victory.

MICDS will have a rare Friday night game as it travels to Lutheran South for a 7:00 contest.

The Rams and Lancers had two of the wildest games of the opening weekend MICDS defeated Maplewood 36-35 in overtime as Michael Scherer scored a touchdown in overtime and added the two-point conversion run.

Lutheran South also had a very interesting start to 2011. The Lancers had three players rush for over 100 yards yet still lost to DuBourg. Sean Bartlow, Jacob Moore and Nathan Dehn each eclipsed 100 yards but the Lancer defense gave up over 700 yards in a 56-40 loss. DuBourg quarterback Jack Hogan had a game for the ages against Lutheran South with 359 yards passing and 163 yards on the ground.

MICDS also did some damage in the air as Thomas Militello threw for 240 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jack Howell was on the receiving end of both touchdowns. He finished with four receptions for 153 yards.

John Burroughs will travel to Principia for the only area Saturday contest at 1 p.m.

The Bombers survived a late 22-point run by Pembroke Hill in a 37-30 win as Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 217 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

It was a long opening day for Principia, which trailed 40-0 at halftime. The Panthers eventually lost to Valle Catholic 54-6.
