Area Boys Basketball Players Honored

John Burroughs senior Grant Wallace named player of the year in the ABC Conference.

The third time was the charm for John Burroughs senior Grant Wallace.

Wallace was second in the voting for ABC Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior as MICDS players McPherson Moore and Michael Scott won the award.

But this year it was Wallace who came away with the top honor in the league after averaging 19.5 points per game and leading the Bombers in assists.

Wallace, who will be attending Yale University where he will play football, finished his career with 1,593 points which is a new school record. He broke Chip Walther's record by six points in the final game of the season.

"Grant had a great career and this was a well-deserved award for him," John Burroughs coach Steve Wilcutt said. "He obviously has the great quickness which he showed on the football field. He has always been a prolific scorer because of his ability to get to the rim. But this year he also developed more of a jump shot which made him a very tough guy to cover."

Wallace was also named to the Class 3 All-State team by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.

Wallace's teammate, Foye Oluokun, was also named to the first-team. The sophomore scored 15.1 points a game and led the Bombers in rebounds and steals.

MICDS' Thomas Militello was also named to the first team. He averaged 11.5 points a game. Ram freshman Rashad Lindsey averaged 12.6 points a game and was named to the second team.

MICDS and JBS finished tied for second in the ABC with 7-3 marks. Lutheran North won the league with a 9-1 record. JBS was 15-10 overall while MICDS was 13-12.

Ladue's Will Childs-Klein and Mitch Montaldo were both named to the first team in the Suburban East Conference.

The 6-foot-10 Childs-Klein had a dominant senior season, averaging 18.3 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Montaldo, who like Childs-Klein was a senior, averaged 12.6 points a game.

Senior Malcolm Early and freshman Cornell Johnston were Rams who were named to the second team.

Ladue finished second in the league to Clayton with a 4-1 record. The Rams were 16-9 overall.
