Villa Duchesne Hosts Missouri Court of Appeals

Students welcomed judges and lawyers for a special docket.

Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School hosted the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District on April 24.

High school students watched as lawyers argued two cases on a special docket. This continues a tradition of the Eastern District of convening court in nontraditional settings to promote awareness of the state’s judicial system.

Special docket Judge Gaertner said, “We hope that the Villa students, parents and faculty who attend the oral arguments will learn about the appellate process and gain a better understanding of our Court’s role in the judicial system.

It is important that we make our Court and its judges accessible to citizens throughout Missouri.”

The cases were presided by Judge Gary M. Gaertner Jr. and Judge Robert M. Clayton III as well as Judge Maura McShane, a 1970 graduate of Villa Duchesne.
