Value-Driven St. Joe Graduates 125 Seniors in the Class of 2012

Ceremonies marks the end of the career for a talented class of seniors.

The St. Joseph’s Academy class of 2012 celebrated the 172nd commencement ceremony in the school’s illustrious history Thursday evening.

The Angels and the values-driven women leaders they have become no doubt will continue to make a profound impact in the world.

St. Joe family members are encouraged to upload their special graduation pictures to the Ladue-Frontenac Patch.

Anita Reznicek, president of the school gave the invocation. The commencement address was given by Marcia Smith Niedringhaus, a member of the board of directors and mother of two previous graduates.

Catlin Mary Bequette delivered the class Valedictorian address.

St. Joe girls collected 349 scholarships, totaling in value more than $3 million dollars. Seventy eight percent of the seniors received one type of scholarship or another.

These are some of the highlights from the class of 2012:
 

  • Academic scholarships: 91 students received 337 scholarships for a one year total of $2,570,142.
  •  Athletic scholarships: Seven students received seven scholarships for a one year total of $112,623
  •  Fine Art Scholarships: Two students received two scholarships for a one year total of $11,500.
  •  Service Scholarships: Two students received two service scholarships for a one year total of $18,000.

The class numbered 125 graduates:

  • 64 students will be attending public colleges or universities
  • 4 students will be attending two-year schools
  • 37 will be attending Catholic colleges or universities
  • 19 will be attending private colleges or universities (non-Catholic)

Also, Rachel Marks is the first recipient of the Julie Schaeffer ('94) Art Award. The Julie Schaeffer Art Award for the Excellence in Visual Arts is given to the senior student who has achieved outstanding accomplishments in the visual arts and for her dedication and commitment to excellence in the arts beyond the classroom.

Julie was a talented art student and 1994 graduate of the Academy. She was tragically killed in a automobile accident in 1997. Julie's love for art will live on forever at St. Joe.
