The FIRST Lego League Robotics Team From Reed School Headed To Nationals

Neon Electrons will represent Eastern Missouri at national championships in California.

The FIRST Lego League (FLL) robotics team, the Neon Electrons, has been selected to represent the Eastern Missouri region in the FLL North American Open Championship May 18-20, 2012 at Legoland-California.  The Neon Electrons is a team of ten 5th grade girls from Reed Elementary School coached by Cindy Cunningham and Meera Jain and sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri.

The FLL tournament teams are judged in four areas: robot design and programming, robot game performance, research project presentation, and teamwork (core values).

The Neon Electrons began their rookie season at the start of the school year last August.  After just a few months of preparation, they received the Innovative Solution Award for their research project solution at the FLL Qualifier Tournament in November, and the Teamwork Award at the Eastern Missouri FLL Championship Tournament on December 4, 2011.

They placed 4th out of 40 overall at the championship; many of their opponents at both tournaments were several years older with previous competition experience.
