Substitutes, An Important Component of School Staffing Needs

Substitutes need to be trained and read to fill in for absent teachers.

As the school year draws nearer, one subject that gets almost no attention is that of substitute teachers.

They are the forgotten group. But they are a very important cog in the wheel. When teachers are home sick or need to be away for meetings, a substitute is a must. Teachers expect the school day to go on smoothly, even in their absence.

More and more school districts are investing heavily in their substitute programs. Some districts such as Clayton hold paid participant seminars and other districts hand out copious amounts of teaching materials.

Substitutes must arrive at school prepared to teach and be easily adaptable to a rapidly changing day. Student demands go on, and the fill ins need to work with and solve problems just like the regular teachers do.

This is a very good article about substitute teaching. Take the time to read it before your children re-enter the class room this August.
