St. Joe Has a Ball With Ladue Before the Fall Ball

Field hockey team posts a 4-1 win over the visiting Rams.

St. Joseph’s Academy had their annual Fall Ball Friday night. That meant those going to the dance from the field hockey team had scant little time to do their hair, makeup, throw down some dinner and get ready. That would include 19 of the 20 players on the team. The dance was for juniors and seniors only. Just one sophomore is on the varsity squad.

The Angels made quick work of visiting Ladue, scoring three times in the first half, and winning 4-1. That made up for last year’s home loss to the Rams, 4-3.

The first-half goals came from Marigace Ragsdale, Olivia Sauer and Claire Sauer. They are sisters.

Ladue got its solo tally from Elise Pellett and Claire Sauer notched her second goal late in the contest. Sophia Sansone recorded to assists.

Mollo Soto, senior remembers last year’s game. “They beat us 4-3, we didn’t forget about that one.” Soto had it figured out what was clicking for the Saints who have won 13 of their 18 starts.

“I think it was our passing. It was clicking good and we were hungry for goals so we scored.”

Claire Sauer who plugged the net twice said Ladue is formidable. “They are a quick team. They just never just connected,”she said.

The Angels will have played four games this week. They go to rival Villa Duchesne later today for a noon Sunday match.

“We should be sky high for that game,” said Sauer. “I think we should feel pretty confident about it and we’re feeling pretty good.”

Maggie Potter, their coach was pleased with another victory.

“Actually I was pleased with their performance. We did a good job of connecting with our passes today and we kept up the pressure, something we’ve been working on this week.”

“Yes, this is a rough week, but sometimes more fun playing all the time. They would rather play than practice. Sunday, we are looking forward to that. That game has been on Sunday as long as I can remember. We played it then when I was on the St. Joe team.  Its a good chance for families, alumni and others to be there. This has been a long, long time traditional game,” said Potter.
