St. Joe, Cor Jesu Battle Their Way Into State Soccer Semifinals

Carly Wickenheiser, freshman at St. Joseph's Academy has served notice in the local soccer world. She delivered a goal in the 5-0 sectional win over Northwest of Cedar Hill and then hit the game-winner in overtime Saturday to lift the Angels (15-6-1) to a 2-1 win over rivals Incarnate Word Academy.

That puts the Angels into the semfinals of the Class 3 championship in Kansas City at Blue Springs South Friday night at 6 p.m. They will face Lee's Summit (23-3).

Cor Jesu (21-2) defeated Pattonville 2-1 to earn the other berth, facing Springfield Glendale (19-5) at 4 p.m. Friday at Blue Springs South. The title game is Saturday night 6 p.m. with the third-place game at noon.

St. Dominic of O'Fallon defeated Visitation Academy 8-1, earning the right to face Jefferson City Helias in the semifinals noon Friday at Blue Springs South in the Class 2 tournament. St. Dominic improved its record to 26-2; Helias is 24-2-2.
