Rams Look to Extend Early Season Streak With ABC League Game at Lutheran South

MICDS won an overtime thriller over Maplewood to open the 2011 campaign.

The MICDS football team will look to keep the momentum up from last Friday’s 36-35 thrilling overtime win over Maplewood Richmond Heights when they take on Lutheran South this Friday evening in Affton. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Senior running back Michael Scherer dominated the Rams offense last week against MRH with 89 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His two-point conversion in overtime gave MICD its first win of the season. Scherer has committed to the University of Missouri.

Look for Rams head coach Joshua Smith to try and pounce on the Lancers early by controlling possession. Last season, the Rams finished 5-5 overall.

Lutheran South, however, hopes to even its record after a tough 56-40 loss last week to Bishop DuBourg. After graduating 90 percent of its offense, look for new head coach Chuck Faucette to experiment and run the ball more.

Faucette joins Lutheran South after two years as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the St. Louis Rams. Returning this season are the Lancers’ beefy offensive line that includes seniors John Kelley and Daniel Boothman, and juniors Bobby Hopkins and Reed Brown. The line weighs a combined 1,200 pounds.

Last season, the Lancers finished 4-6 overall and 2-4 in ABC league play. MICDS ran over Lutheran South in a 55-28 win one season ago.
