Part of the Annual Retreat at School

Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School's Faculty & Staff Volunteer at Local Agencies in the Community.

As part of Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School’s faculty and staff retreat on Feb. 11, more than 100 employees spent the morning volunteering at more than 20 St. Louis area organizations the likes of City Academy, Food Outreach, Ronald McDonald House, Mary Ryder Home, Mother of Good Council, and Energy Care. Many of these organizations are where their own students volunteer during the school year as part of the Service Learning program at Villa Duchesne and the Apostolic Works program at Oak Hill.

One of the retreat organizers, Krista Richardson ’76, explained, “One of the goals of a Sacred Heart school is educating to a ‘social justice which impels to action.’ During the retreat, the faculty and staff of Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School modeled what we teach our students every day.  We affirmed our school’s commitment to be linked in a reciprocal manner with ministries among the poor, marginalized, and those suffering from injustice.”
