MVP of Week 6: Kevin Steinhouse, Junior Swimmer at John Burroughs

Bombers beat Chaminade and MICDS and expect to finish high at state.

NAME: Kevin Steinhouse

SCHOOL: John Burroughs

SPORT: Swimming

YEAR IN SCHOOL: Junior

Patch.com: How is your season going?

Kevin Steinhouse: We are having one of the best seasons in the history of the swimming program at Burroughs. We are undefeated with a record of 8-0 I believe. Personally, I have qualified in state for 3 individual races, 50 free, 100 free, and the 100 backstroke, along with being on the relays that have also qualified for state, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay.

Already I am faster than I was last year and its only half way through the season so I am excited to see where the team and I end up by teh end.

Patch: What is the favorite thing you like about being on your team.

Steinhouse: My favorite thing about the Burroughs swim team would have to be that we are dedicated but we also know how to have fun. A lot of the guys on the swim team also play water polo with me so we have two seasons during the year to get to know one another.

This allowed us to come into this swim season knowing each others strengths and weaknesses and because of this we know how to cheer each other up after a rough race and to congratulate someone on great swim.

We work hard in our practices but don't forget to always have fun and I am honored to swim along side of all of my teammates.

Patch: What are some special Accomplishments:

Steinhouse: This year was the first year since 1986 that we beat Chaminade in a dual meet which was a very cool experience for us as a team.

Also, seven different people have already qualified for at least one individual race. A freshman this year broke our school record in the 200 IM and that is probably the coolest thing that has happened this season.

I broke our school record in the 100 backstroke but I know I won't have it by the end of the season because my teammate and captain Adam Hotaling will swim it at state and I know he can beat my time. This is by far our best season and its barely halfway through.

Patch: Favorite tune in your I-Pod.

Steinhouse: Beautiful things by Gung.
