MICDS Tournament: Ladue, Hosts Step Off With Opening Wins

Ladue edges Burroughs 1-nil; host Rams come from behind for 4-2 win.

The Ladue and MICDS soccer teams certainly got off on the right foot in the MICDS season-opening tournament this week.

Although John Burroughs dominate much of the game with the ball mostly in the Ladue end of the field, the Rams of Ladue edged the Bombers 1-0. Joe Maenza, a junior midfielder scored the only goal of the contest. Daniel Israeli did a good job of preventing Burroughs from switching the ball and fed it to Maenza for the game winner.

“Our team played badly in the first half. We played a bit harder and were able to sneak one in,” said the winning coach Matt Prange.

Assistant coach Dave Aaronberg said these early tests might pay off. “We learned a lot from our games at the Quincy tournament. We did some good team bonding. We will learn more here (at MICDS), then we go,” said Aaronberg. Ladue is 2-2, Burroughs is 0-1.

Meanwhile, MICDS came back from a 2-0 deficit in the early going to defeat Soldan International Studies, 4-2. The Rams ran off consecutive goals from J.T. Thiermann, Steven Mattingly, Tom Hereford and Peyton Mach.

The tournament continues this week with the championship on Saturday.
