MICDS Swimmers Prep for State By Romping Over Rival Burroughs

Rams win 11 of 12 events in Bombers pool.

If MICDS wins the state swim meet later this month, or finishes near the top, a lot of credit will go senior swim star Annie Goessling. She’s led MICDS to the finish line many times the past four years.

Today, she will sign a National Letter of Intent to swim for the North Carolina Tar Heels. “I am so excited to go there. I will be swimming and pursuing a degree in the business school.”

Goessling had a literal field day in the John Burroughs pool Tuesday. She swam on the first-place medley relay; first on the 200 yard free style relay; first on the 400 free style relay; and first in the 200 yard individual medley.

“Annie has been a very strong member of our team. We can swim her in any of a wide variety of events and she will do well,” said her coach Kristen Kaiser. “Swimmers this good don’t call along all the time,” said her coach.

Kaiser honed in on preparation for the state meet the third week of this month at the Rec Plex in St. Peters.

“I believe we started preparing for the state meet on day 1,” said the Rams’ coach. “We will begin to tapper and prepare next week.”

Next week, the swimming Rams will be in the conference meet held next Tuesday and Thursday at the 10-lane complex at the new Westminster Christian Academy complex.

“I’m happy in terms of where we are,” said Goessling. “I have wonderful teammates and we should do well (at the state meet),” said Goessling.

Tuesday was all Rams in the Bombers’ pool. The only break through for Burroughs came in the 100 yard butterfly. Steady Madison Qualy was first to the finish line in 1:02.85.

MICDS won the dual meet, 124-59. Steady swimmers like Lily Reisinger, Hadley Edwards, Trey Ross and Masha Podokshik piled up points, mainly in the three relays. The depth in the relays will serve the Rams well in the state meet.

The MICDS 400 freestyle has the top time on the Metro Honor Roll in 3:43.98. Their time at Burroughs was significantly slower at 3:55.71.

Here are the sights and sounds of the MICDS romp in the Bombers’ pool.
