MICDS Rolls to 18th Win of the Season With 73-40 Win over Notre Dame

Freshmen on both sides put on a strong showing on the Rams home floor.

The modest crowd that came out to see the MICDS and Notre Dame girls basketball game Monday night got a glimpse of the future of local stars.

Freshman Madeline Ronshausen scored 19 for the Notre Dame Rebels; Taylor Baur, also a freshman had 11 for the Rams.

Good thing there’s two halves to a game. The Rams outscored the visitors 41-13 in the second half and cruised to a 73-40 victory. That pushed the Rams record to 18-2.

Notre Dame, which trailed by 5 at halftime, 32-27 fell to 7-13.

“We just wore them down in the second half,” said the winning coach Scott Small.

“They are a good basketball team. They have some neat freshmen,” said Small.

“We love to press and they love to do it and they are unselfish and we get a lot of defensive rebounds and we get out quick,” said Small.

“We had 3 or 4 players in double digits.Taylor Bauer had a heckuva game,” he said.

Baur did have 11. Caroline Militello did some nifty driving and ended up with 16. Emily Kyman had 13 and Cameron Jackson had 11.

“I told the team Notre Dame is a team that will play you for 32 minutes. They have some young kids who are really good players and that is what we expected. We got lost up in rotations and in some foul trouble the end of the first half and why we were leading by just five,” said Small.

MICDS scored first and got out to an early lead, 12 at one point; but the Rebels battled their way back into the game. They had the game tied at 11-11 and 13-13.

Then Maya Howard and Jackson hit some big shots and the Rams were never headed.
