MICDS Outsplashes Villa In Their Own Pool, 89-72

Annie Goessling, Morgan Mullenix qualify for state in a variety of different events.

Dual swim meets serve several purposes. For one, they are good tuneups towards bigger meets like invitationals, districts and the big enchilada, the state meet.

The Villa Saints
jumped into the MICDS pool Thursday afternoon to figure out where these cracker jack swim stars stand. Come late February, numerous MICDS and Villa swimmers will get to stand on the victory stand at the RecPlex in St. Peters.

This dual was a good day for seniors Morgan Mullenix and Annie Goessling of MICDS in particular.

Both star on the Clayton Shaw Park Tideriders team.

Mullenix sprinted to first place in the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.09) and anchored the first-place in the 200 yard free relay (1:45.98) and first in the 400 yard free relay (3:49.74). Surely, she would have won the bang-bang 50 free but didn’t enter that event.

Goessling won the 100 free style in 54.23, first in the 100 yard back stroke (1:01.44) and swam lead off on the first-place 100 yard medley relay. All the recorded times earned qualification into the state swim championships,

Hadley Edwards won the 100 individual medley in 2:19.60 and the 100 yard breast stroke in 1:13.32.  Masha Podokshik was first in the grueling 500 free in 5:30.42.

Ellie George of Villa was first to the touch pads in the 50 free in 26.71 and Bentley Boldt of Villa was first in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:00.19.

For the record, MICDS won the meet 89 to 72.

The swimmers have avoided the injury bug and they are dropping times as bigger meets approach.

Included in this report is a video review of the meet plus interviews with Rams’ coach Kristen Kaiser, swim stars Annie Goessling of MICDS and Morgan Mullenix of Villa.
