MICDS Out-Duels Burroughs in the Pool, 101-69

The MICDS and John Burroughs swim meet is always a good one. This year, the Rams had more depth and won over the visiting Bombers, 101-69. 

This could be viewed as a tune up to the state meet February 15-16 at the Rec Plex in St. Peters.

While neither team will be challenging for a state title in two weeks, both would like to have a good showing, especially with their strong point-rich relay teams.

Kristen Kaiser, Rams coach said her girls had a good swim.

“Yea, we had some decent swims. We are very tired. Our conference meet was last week and so my non-state kids are really tired because they’ve been tapered and brought back up. My state kids are tired because they haven’t gotten any rest yet,” said Kaiser.

Burroughs coach Leslie Kehr said her girls were just off kilter. “There’s something about swimming in this pool (Louis Beaumont Pool) on the MICDS campus. They think the water is cold. The launch stands are low and they just kind of freak out each year. I'm not freaked out at all. They were way off their best times,” said Kehr.

Still, it was a strong meet for freshman Maddie Wessell of JBS. Wessell was first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:16.41); first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.92) and swam anchor on the first-place 200 yard free style relay in 1;49.49. That relay was made up of Amanda Cao, Jessica Ryan, Barrett Carlson and Wessel.

MICDS pulled off a number of first-place finishes. Lily Reisinger won the 200 yard free style in 2:01.05. Masha Podokshik was first in the 100 yard free style in 57.90; Trey Ross was first in the 100 yard back stroke in 1:04.99 and Gigi Rill was first to touch in the 100 yard breast stroke in 1:16.60.

“We have three relays going to state. Trey (Ross) has made the 100 fly and the 100 back and Lily (Reisinger) has made the Geneva Lee have made individual events too. “Lily has had a very good year. She works really hard and I expect good things out of her,” said Kaiser.

“I’m OK with the points. I had a feeling they were going to beat us,” said Kehr. “I’m not worried for what’s ahead. We’ll be fine,” said Kehr.

“We’ve got all three relays; Maddie is going to swim two events and so too is Barrett. I can’t remember the last time we had two individuals in two events,” said the Burroughs coach.
