Local Teams Involved In District Basketball Play Next Week

MICDS, Villa Duchesne, Ladue, St. Joe launch second season starting Monday,

The St. Louis University High Junior Billikens, taking advantage of the President’s Day holiday next Monday are playing host to four first round Class 5, District 2 games. Some of the top teams in the area will be in their new gym.

In the opening round on Feb. 20 at 11 a.m., the host Junior Bills take on Chaminade. The winner advances to a Wednesday 5 p.m. game to take on the Statesmen of Webster Groves.

At 12:30 p.m. on President’s Day, the Ladue High Rams face Roosevelt in the other boys’ game.

Then at 2 p.m. the Ladue girls face Webster Groves while at 3:30 p.m., Ursuline Academy take on 0-9 Roosevelt.

Winners move on to Thursday. At 2:35 p.m., the winner of Ladue-Webster Groves meets the top seed, the St. Joe Angels in a 2:35 p.m. match. At 5 p.m., Nerinx Hall takes on the winner of Ursuline and Roosevelt. The girls championship will be decided Saturday, Feb.25 at 1 p.m. in the Junior Bills gym.

The boys resume play on Tuesday, Feb. 22, with Webster Groves meeting the winner of Chaminade-SLUH and at 5 p.m., CBC takes on the winner of Ladue-Roosevelt at 7 p.m.

The boys championship will be determined in a 7 p.m. game on Friday, February 24.

Meanwhile, Ladue-Frontenac teams will duke it out in Class 4, District 6 at MICDS.

Quarterfinal games will begin at 6;30 p.m. on Monday, February 20. In the girls quarterfinal game at 5 p.m., No. 4 seed Clayton takes on No. 5 seed University City. At 6:30 p.m., on Monday, February 20, in the boys quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m., No. 4 Clayton meets No. 5 Priory.

Semifinal play resumes Wednesday, February 22 with No. 1 seed Westminster girls facing the Clayton-U. City winner at 4 p.m. and No. 2 seed MICDS facing No. 3 seed Villa Duchesne at 5:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m., No. 1 Westminster boys meet the winner of Clayton-Priory and at 8:30 p.m., No. 2  U. City meets No. 3 MICDS.

The girls championship game will be decided Friday, February 24 at 6 p.m., followed by the boys title game at 8 p.m.

The Burroughs schedule in Class 3 has yet to be released.
