Ladue School Board President Won’t Seek Another Term

Filings for April’s election to the Ladue School Board opened Tuesday.

Two people have filed for a seat in the Ladue School Board for the upcoming April 3 elections. Current vice president of the board Jeff Kopolow, whose term is expiring, and William Shirley. There are two seats up for election.

Board president Jayne Langsam's term is also expiring, although she does not plan to run for re-election, said Susan Dielmann, Ladue School District’s communications director.

If elected, each board member will serve a term of three years. The requirements for filing are:

  • Must file a Declaration of Candidacy form, available at the Administrative Center
  • Citizen of the United States
  • At least 24 years of age
  • A resident taxpayer of the Ladue School District who has resided in Missouri for one year preceding the election
  • Not serving a sentence or period of probation for a felony or a crime that if committed in Missouri would be a felony.

Filing opened Dec. 11, and will close Jan. 15. Those interested can file at the Ladue  School District’s Administrative Center, 9703 Conway Road, St. Louis, Mo 63124, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Who is William Shirley? You might want to include a little info on those who file.

Thanks for that...we will be learning more about those who do file, and find out why incumbents decide not to run for re-election when that's the case.

Well, that must mean he's not flyoverland.
Rats!

Why don't you run, Dad? If he wins, six of seven of the board will reside in Olivette. Creve Coeur and Frontenac will again be shut out.

Unfortunately, I don't suffer fools well and I ask too many inconvenient questions. I fear that if I were to even run for the board, my head would explode.

Don't worry CreveCoeur Dad i've already started making "flyoverland for office" posters. Also flyoverland since you seem to know everything, what's the percentage of kids that go to Ladue who are from Olivette compared to Creve Coeur/Frontenac?
flyoverland December 14, 2012 at 01:02 pm
Here's a tidbit for you. Less than 25% of kids live in Ladue, but over 50% of the money comes from Ladue. I have been watching this district for years and I cannot tell you when the last director from Frontenac held office. If nominated I will not run, if elected, I will not serve.

I seriously doubt its less than 25% but the money aspect if more believable

A large percentage of people in Ladue send their kids to private schools and the overall demographic is older which means they may not have kids in the home. It is up a little during the recession, however, Olivette remains the biggest user of the schools and the contributor of the fewest dollars. That is the thing that so irritates people is that one small area controls the board and continues to soak taypayers in the other cities for higher taxes. Since home values in Ladue, Frontenac and Creve Coeur are on average (certainly not always as there are some pretty nice homes in Olivette), but on average higher, those tax increases tend to hit the wallets of Ladue residents much harder. My taxes went up almost a thousand dollars in the last tax increase. That is not chump change and what did they do with it? Raises were handed out instantly to teachers and administrators and they even raised the starting pay of new teachers. Demand for teachers is cyclical. Right now, its a buyer's market. We are running up the starting pay when there are numerous applicants for each opening. We should take advantage of this knowing we will have to pay more in the future when the trends reverse. But, we never do.
